US Stock Market is $18 Trillion
US Residential Real Estate $23 Trillion
US Commercial Real Estate $5 Trillion
US GDP $14 Trillion
US National Debt $13 Trillion
2009 Federal Spending $3.5 Trillion
2009 Federal Receipts $2.1 Trillion
US Household Debt $14 Trillion
US Federal Land Value (Unknown)
Noticed there was no line for national savings ( as contrasted to stocks and bonds which are investments ).
If everyone were to work for one year, and give all of their money to the US treasury, then we will pay off our US debt.
From what I can tell if we can just get unemployment to 20% we will have a stock market Obama Boom.
Instead, they’ll just ask us to spend the rest of our lives chipping away at it.
Clearly, the Federal National Debt is actually within reason of equity. The real problem now, is the rate of federal spending. Either spending goes down, or tax rates must increase by 50% in order to match spending.
The Federal Government is much like a living being. It wants to grow, prosper, and will defend itself like a cornered animal if threatened.
I suppose, that the 2009 budget and intake are overstated and understated respectively, but still....
Most folks discuss these financial issues on a financial basis, when the reality is, that severe times like this are actually more prone to cause regional and global conflict. World War 2 is a good example IMHO.
Good observation. The Fed Gov't is a conglomeration of living (human?) beings. There is good reason why it behaves as you have astutely described.
Thank you for the question. M2 money supply in the USA stands at $8.5 Trillion.
keep in mind that thanks to George W M D Bush...
we pay a majority of the living-expenses
of the people in Iraq and Afghanisan
So, for the sake of financial hindsight, we should go back in time, and not invade or attack Afghanistan or Iraq. I cannot fathom a scenario where the US would not have done, what we have done in Afghanistan, even if Gore had been elected. Iraq is up for legitimate debate, but the fact remains that Saddam and his two sons were wiped off the face of the earth, and the potential they had for global destruction is not up for debate. We’ll never know what the equity side of the equation is, for eliminating those 3. But, I’d bet it was rather significant.
Federal Lands are 30% of total US real estate. A map for each state is listed below.
for the record.
I supported, and would again,
invading Iraq and Afghanistan.
in 2005, I then believed we should have moved out.
I voted for Bush 8 times.
with hindsight, I wish I would have
voted for Kerry in 2004
