Is it possible to love an animal?

Is it possible to actually "love" an animal- like a cat or dog? Any Freepers love their pet? How about those with non-traditional pets? Anyone love their cow, horse, snake or pig?

“Well?”

Well what? You post this, then post a link to an article about some disgusting pervert and his abuse of animals.

Are you trying to link the bond the average pet owner has with the family dog or cat with bestiality? How dare you.

Krankor didn’t post that link; thecabal did. I’m pretty sure it was a joke.

I don’t feel the need to reciprocate.

And when did I suggest that you should?

We agree that a dog isn’t a human. If I had to choose between my dog and daughter, it isn’t even close...and my dogs would agree!

That said, I don’t think ‘love’ is restricted to another human. God loves us, and we are absolutely nothing in comparison to God. When we love our animals, we mirror God’s love for us - imperfectly, but when we work on a garden, we imperfectly imitate God’s example in creation.

While we are made in God’s image, all creation awaits our redemption:

“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” - Romans 8

I think it is safe to say that God’s love extends to the creatures he created, and in loving the animals he brings into our lives, we give glory to God by imitating his love.

Just IMHO.

of course it is.....in a manner a human can love a pet.

and the pet responds to their capability...which is mixture of fondness and dependence often....

i love my dog

i really loved my old big white cat

i like my other cats

i like my snakes...sort of

and so forth

the snakes don’t love me..they will bite me if I have a live arctic mouse in my hand.

folks get a bit consumed by all of this...makes PetSmart happy

It seemed to me you were trying to start an argument...that I’m not interested in having.

Yes. Both in the “cuddle and coo” sense and the “satisfy the horses” sense. Although the latter will get you in deep trouble if you get caught.

An argument is contentious; a discussion is exploratory.

Anyway, this is abuse; you want room 12A, just along the corridor.

No, but close- Chicago. I love dogs, so it’s great to see how many Freepers love theirs, too. One guy said he loved his snake- “sort of”

My animals were all abandoned,

Mine, too. Of the 6 all but 2 were abandoned and one of those 2 was tied up and neglected. 2 of the cats were tiny kittens that turned up in my yard, cold and wet and scared. They were still too young to eat. I had to feed them with a medicine dropper.
