Hershey Co. shares surged to a 52-week high Thursday after a more than year-long advertising push helped to boost sales and volumes at the chocolate maker during the first quarter.
Buoyed by its performance in the first three months of 2010, Hershey (NYSE:HSY) , which also makes Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Kit Kat bars, boosted its 2010 profit and sales forecast. It also plans to increase the amount it spends on advertising.

Go to a well stocked dollar store if you want to buy your name brand chocolates for less.
Well, we know what’s important to you, Diana! Hope you get enough exercise...
But there's proof it increases endorphins and decreases stress. And with the amount of stress we are all under, it is no wonder people are eating gobbling it up!
Is 30,000 steps a day enough? LOL! (Most people average 10K a day.)
I work outdoors and I farm. I love my chocolate!
La Madeline au Truffe. $250 for 1.9 oz box.
Looking for the most extravagant chocolate in the world? Knipschildt's La Madeline au Truffe was recognized by Forbes Magazine as the most expensive chocolate in the world. Starts with a decadent 70% Valrhona dark chocolate, heavy cream, sugar, truffle oil and vanilla as the base for the rich decadent ganache. A rare French Perigord truffle is then surrounded by this rich decadent ganache; enrobed in Valrhona dark chocolate, then rolled in fine cocoa powder. The result is pure extravagance! Lying on a bed of sugar pearls tied w/ a ribbon.
My two favorite chocolate companies are Hershey’s and Nestle’s. They both make the best chocolate products I know. Most of the rest are way too rich, way too creamy, way more expensive or just don’t taste all that good or any combination of those.
Orange Truffles from the Farmhouse / Makes 48. Store covered/refrigerated.
Original from Reiman's Best of Country Cooking 2003 Change extract for whole other flavor.
Processor 30 seconds cup+2 tbl choc/chips (some won't pulverize). W/ motor on add slowly almost boiling 2/3 c heavy cream, 2 tbl butter, then tea orange extract; proc/smooth. Chill firm in bowl 20-30 min. Roll inch balls. Dip into combined melted 2 tbl shortening/2 c mini/choc/chips. Harden on wax-papered sheeetpan.
FINISH Drizzle over in elegant pattern from tip of fork---1/3 c melted white chocolate chips.
I started avoiding hersey when they moved production oversees.
Actually, there is truth in what you said. I've seen some of the biggest increases in confectionery sales during recessions; relatively cheap pleasure. Was very big during the Carter years.
Are you having chocolate withdrawal today Diana? LOL!!

That sounds wonderful! My two faves are anything orange and chocolate and anything raspberry and chocolate. :)
I just pick a theme and I run with it. But, you know I hold chocolate in high esteem!
Next week it might be cheese. Or chickens. :)
Fast, easy and low cal. Smuckers raspberry jam is 10 cals per tbl.
Raspberry Salad Dressing
Micro/melt on low tbl ea sugar-free raspberry jam, balsamic vinegar, water.
Especially good on salad of fresh spinach, red onions, fresh orange sections.
Thanks, Liz! I have half a jar of Rasp. jelly in the fridge...and will have lots of spinach in the garden real soon. :)
Thanks for posting the fun chocolate threads. Yum
