A routine morning Metrorail ride turned into a frightening experience for one man on Friday, who said the train doors closed right on his neck while he was trying to exit the train.
I was in shock, said passenger Oscar Lujan. I [was] wondering, Is this actually happening?
Lujan was getting off the train at the New York Avenue station around 8 a.m. when got trapped between the doors. He said the doors closed so fast that he felt he didnt have enough time to get out of the way. After that, he feared the train would take off while he was still half-in, half-out of the train car.
He started shouting for help, while he and other passengers started to pry the doors open manually. He said it was another 20 seconds before the doors reopened and he was able to free himself.
Lujan, a self-described experienced Metro rider, said he didnt recall hearing the familiar warning chimes that play just before the Metro doors usually close. I feel [the doors] closed prematurely, Lujan said.
Lujan said he had throbbing neck pain and a headache after the incident, but he was otherwise OK. He said he lost his glasses in the scuffle. He reported the incident to Metro, which said Friday night that it is investigating and trying to figure out whether it was caused by a door malfunctioning or something else. The transit agency also plans to interview the train operator who was on duty at the time.

I hate it when that happens.
Message from the Metro to Lujan: Pull your head out.
“throbbing neck pain”
...looks like it’s ambulance chaser time!
” door malfunctioning or something else”
Could it be,.....Stupidity?
Call the ACLU, call a lawyer. The doors are obviously “racist”.
Visited DC for the first time during the cherry blossom festival last year and rode the Metro from Fairfax to DC.
BIG MISTAKE
Was it wrong to laugh when I read the headline?
Please stand clear of the doors
Por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas!
bttt
This has all the makings of an Edgar Allan Poe story.
“DC Metro rider gets head stuck in subway door”
Biden riding the train again?
Probably didn’t hear the chime cause had headphones on, or yakking on phone, happens all the time. Doors all interlocked into propulsion,i.e., no closed doors, no go.
We did spring break in DC so granddaughter could see monuments and Smithsonian, so we were re-acquainted with the Metro. The doors ding before they close and there is a speech announcement that the doors about to close. Nevermindthat - there is always someone that charges them anyway. I watched a guy with his hands in the door, try to force it open.
I can vouch for the fact that the train won’t go unless the doors are closed. At one stop, a door, didn’t close properly, they tried repeatedly, then they unloaded the train and we had to wait for the next one.
I’m inclined to believe this guy is one of those idiots who can’t stand to wait a few minutes more, so he charged through the door as it was closing.
