Seriously Eaker? It’s a figure of speech derived for magazine clip. Even if it was a revolver, it was said to imply the use of ever round in the weapon. By round I mean bullet.

A clip is a device that holds rounds together for charging a magazine. Magazines hold rounds that are loaded directly into the chamber from the magazine. Magazines can either be non-removable or removable, most magazines used in modern weapons are removable and usually do not use clips for charging them. Most clips are discarded after being used to charge a magazine, an exception would be the 8 round en bloc clip used for the Garand M1 rifle. This clip stays in the non-removable magazine until all rounds are fed from the magazine into the chamber and fired, at which time the clip ejects and another one is inserted into the magazine.
A very fast and efficient way to load a rifle, a draw back being that you couldn't use the rifle without the clip.
. BTW, some revolvers have used clips, the half moon clips that are used with .45 ACP revolvers come to mind.
Most purist get highly incensed when someone calls a magazine a clip. I don't care one way or another:) but I do like to pontificate on such matters.
