So Spike goes on NBC's WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE last night.
Hilarity ensues...as we watch Spike turn several shades of grey as he comes to terms with the fact that:
*His great grandpa worked in a CONFEDERATE Colt pistol factory, that was burned down by Sherman.
* He almost certainly has white blood.
* His ancestors not only had 40 acres and a mule, they had 80 acres and a mule by the 1870 census.
*His third cousin twice removed was a fine southern lady living in Texas.
Now I have a soft spot for Spike, and his "joints", but he espouses this cartoonish view of racial issues.
It was nice to see him HAVE TO FACE the complexities of that time and the unlikely close relationship between slave/slaveowner, and all the other issues...you can't just fit this stuff in a neat little box just to make yourself feel morally superior.

I am pale with blonde hair and blue eyes, but Jewish ancestry. I have one HLA type that only African blacks have, and some few Jews. Yes, I have black blood. We are all mixed. Who cares? What is Spike trying to prove??
Quite a few Europeans originally came to America as Indentured Servants. Basically a contract slave. The contract was for a specific length of time. Once the contract was over, they were free. There were also many Europeans that came over on English prison ships. Those people probably had it the worse off. Forced to do the dirty work of the English at the point of a gun. That was standard practices back in those days.
I chatted with some black girls in a plantation house in Louisiana while we were touring it. They had just learned that the owners of that plantation were black and they had owned black slaves. They were devastated.
He wants to prove that the US is the most despicable nation in world history. Like all radical leftists, he ultimately seeks our demise.
People like him dream of a day when every caucasian in America is either banished or destroyed. In his secular, racist religion, caucasians are like infidels are to muslims.
The man is a seething ball of racist hatred, and should be condemned by all thinking people.
Freudian Projectionism would be my guess. Trying to excuse his own personal dislike of whites via projecting his racism to all whites. IE - My dislike of whites is not my fault. It is their fault. All progressives have this character flaw. They refuse to deal with their own inadequacies and project those negative character traits on to others. That character flaw makes them a progressive. The mindset typically manifests as - It is okay to steal from the rich because they probably stole their riches in the first place and besides they definitely did not earn the riches and definitely do not deserve the richness.
I do give Mr. Lee credit for doing this episode of the show.
Now he PERSONALLY knows that “It’s Complicated” is more than a
title of a comedy movie.

Yes, this was common. One of my ancestors agreed to work aboard ship to pay for his family’s passage to America in the mid-seventeen hundreds. He was an inexperienced seaman and fell from the ships rigging and was killed. When they arrived in America his wife and child were sold into indentured servitude to pay off the fare. They almost died while traveling to find family after they were released.

Louisiana had the largest number of black slave owners if history serves me correctly.
Anthony Johnson was a black man who came across from England as an indentured servant. Indentured servants were valued at more than slaves early on because the survival rate was very low. Usually the contract was the price of coming to the colony and when the contract time (usually 7 years) ended, the servant would be able to purchase their own land and make money as a tobacco farmer themselves. It was financially better because most of the time the servant didn’t survive the contract and the plantation owner could get more. After the survival rate increased, the plantation owners realized they would be having more competition, so they changed to slaves.
So, Anthony Johnson, a black man who worked out his contract and became his own plantation owner had slaves himself. A slave of his (John Casor I think?) ran away to a neighbor and the neighbor wouldn’t return him, not agreeing morally with slavery. Anthony Johnson sued the neighbor and won, making him the first legal case as a legal slaveowner ordained and recognized by the courts as the “owner” of John Casor.
This is how the first slaveowner in America was a black man.
