Poor Mel Gibson. The liberals (including those in the Catholic Church) beat him down after the Passion and he simply couldn’t hang on. One of the problems is that because of his slightly nutty father, he seemed to seek the outside edges of Catholicism, and this left him completely without support when the bad things started to rain down, thanks to the NY Times and other great liberal sources.

Well, I'm not sure, but the film was absolutely outstanding, and in my mind, Satan attacked him fiercely because of this (via Mel's own weaknesses which were already a part of him).
