I am a fan of King as well but some of his books are downright horrible (though they are few) The real stinker of the bunch IMO is "Cell"...
Zombies created from cellphones?!?!?
Every time I see that book I think of this bit from Family Guy:
Stephen King: Now for my 300th novel, a couple... uh...On the other hand "Duma Key" and "Bag of Bones" are some of my recent favs. Really good reads! Another dog IMO is "Lisey's Story". At halfway through the book I was hoping some huge monster would just eat all the characters just so something interesting would happen. Never did finish that one.
[casts about desperately]
Stephen King: is attacked... by a giant... uh... lamp monster! Oooooooo!
Editor: You're not even trying anymore are you?
[sigh]
Editor: When can I have it?
I love the Gunslinger series but a trilogy isn't gonna even get close. They made a trilogy of Lord of the Rings and it was just three books and they had to leave out chapters of good stuff. (Never gonna forgive Jackson for editing out the scouring of the shire which I always thought was the main point of the story. (You can't go home again, cause home is forever change while you were gone.)
Still I'll be looking forward to seeing it.
OK now for the next big question:
Who is gonna play Roland Deschain?
Maybe this guy:
or maybe:
Or:
Depp would be interesting, But Jackman and Owen have played more tough guys where Depp has played more cerebral type characters.
Roland needs to look older than any of them. Truthfully if he could be talked out of retirement Eastwood is the perfect one, he played the character Roland is most based on, and has the worn look of the Roland we see.
Hugh Jackman please. I’d hit it like Britney Spears eats Cheetos.
Jackson is way too pretty looking.
I have always been a huge Johnny depp fan despite his political leanings.
Thinking of the scouring of the shire is making me want to read the lord of the rings again. I have only read it once, and I thought it was wonderful, although not the easiest of reads.
Luckily, I have not read The Cell, although I can see where King might come up with a premise such as that.
Reprogramming the human mind to act contrary to the norm has always been talked about and experimented with for decades.
