It is wholly unacceptable for that little girl to go through what she is going through.
Objectively, the choice for you is simple. Be a responsible member of the dog loving community and find a solution to pit bull mauling or face pit bull bans.
I have not seen you offer any solution beyond acceptance of the status quo.
Solve the problem of pit bull mauling and I am quite happy to alter my position that pit bulls should be banned in residential neighborhoods.
“find a solution to pit bull mauling”
MASSIVE fines and merciless jail time for -owners- of -any- dog that attacks without valid reason.
[i.e...protection of home/hearth/family/attack upon itself]
You don’t kick the dumb animal, you kick the dumb -owner’s- ass.
Even though I think Vicks’ jail time was WAY too short, even that brainless, ball throwing chunk of meat isn’t going to repeat his “mistake”.
What is BS is you ascribing evil to a dumb animal
and not just to a particular dog
but to all dogs of some ill-defined type.
You present an irrational and foolish premise
and then seek to justify it by appealing to emotion.
Dog attacks by any breed/type are unacceptable
but they are not the result of evil.
There is only one type of being on Earth that is capable of evil.
Here's a couple of clues as to which one....
I have not seen you offer any solution beyond acceptance of the status quo.
Search the keyword RDO and you will see solutions I have posted time and time again.
I'll waste no more time trying to reason with a fool.
Chet99 posted THIS article to support his opinion that something needs to be done about the Pit Bull breed. THIS article does not support his position; there is insufficient information.
I am concerned about the pit bull breed and have posted with Chet's "side" on many occasions. You can look for yourself if you would like - (hope this helps you with your inquiry). On THIS thread in THIS article he didn't provide the back up for his ongoing position.
If you want to add more information knock yourself out.
I’ve gotta go with number 1....showing teeth AND ears up (confident). Number 2 is unsure—ears are down.
Dude!...how about a “graphic!” warning, next time?
I *just* got done jumping up and running off to leave hubby sitting alone to finish watching ‘The Road Warrior’ because “that scene” was coming up.
I can’t stand stuff like this.
I would say at this point we have run this thread. It sounds like I have not grasped your position, especially if you agree with Chet 99.
I’d leave at, something needs to be done. The status quo is not acceptable. I willing to listen to suggestions.
Thank you...yes, it helped a lot.
Let's not get caught up in symantics. I don't know what your definition of evil is but you are taking mine far beyond my view.
I don't think the devil hides in pit bulls.
Gosh, I am going to have to check the dictionary to look up evil.
Well, after all that we have something we can agree on. In fact, I think that is a great idea. I'm still concerned it comes after the fact, after the attack. It is not going to help the victim.
Not that particular victim, no.
But it will set a precedent and send clear, non-negotiable signals to the other dumb ass owners to get their acts together before they go broke and go to jail.
Sometimes “money and jail” are the only things that force *some* people to do what decent people would have already done, anyway.
When WV made animal cruelty an automatic 10 year sentence felony, due to a particularly gruesome incident, even the thickest bricks in the crowd took notice.
Whereas before, it was common to read abuse cases in the paper, I can’t recall the last one I read since that law took effect.
“Automatic absolutes” really work.
When I was a kid, my dad laid out The Rules.
I was told precisely what would happen if I broke The Rules.
Being mule-headed and hating authoritarian mandates, naturally, I broke a couple of the rules to ‘push it’.
And, just what he said would happen *did* happen.
There was no negotiation, no arbitration and no appeals.
Just the promised punishment.
Needless to say, those few incidents cured me of “boundary testing” really quickly and I was an obnoxiously “good kid” after that.
It’s a pity that society has to treat [theoretically] responsible adults like mule-headed, obstinate children but if the shoe fits....
The odd thing is that in a certain “part of town” not too far from here, you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting somebody with a pit on a leash.
I’ve *never* heard of a single pit attack, locally.
Abused pits being hauled off and healed, yeah, but attacks?
I have no idea what is different here from everywhere else.
[and this part of town *is* bad and there *are* drugs everywhere]
A mystery...
I am not that certain a dog should be destroyed for biting the vet or the friend. Of course, I don’t know dog psychology or whether this is a irredeemible animal but it seems to me that stress from (1) vet treatment and (2) being a big dog in a motel room would not be some mitigating factor. I wonder if it could have done better in another home with room to roam, and strict limits on its contact with humans, of course.
