Here is an updated video report on the crash of an Air India Express 737 en route from Dubai to Mangalore, India. Current information puts the death toll at 159, with seven survivors.
The plane overshot the runway, and one survivor said he heard a "loud explosion" just before the plane hit the ground. He also said he saw a "hole on the left side of the plane."
Indian officials are saying that weather had nothing to do with the crash. They also are sayin they believe the cause was "pilot error."
The report shows the first image of a survivor - a child - at around the 6:20 mark of the video.

An explosion prior to landing is a pilot error? Um...
I don’t see how a loud explosion and a hole in the side is pilot error. There’s still the mystery behind the Polish plane crash. There’s been failed attempts on American planes in recent months. There’s been people getting on planes without passports. Names are being taken off watch lists when they shouldn’t be.

Overshoot (go off the end of the landing runway) and down you go, crash, snapple, pop.
If you recall the crash in Madrid, a couple of years back, the pilots forgot to extend the leading/trailing edge devices (slats and flaps). After takeoff the plane's wing stalled and it came back to earth but had the misfortune to slide into a gorge and everyone bought the farm.
Sad.
Survivors of this sort of thing can have very fuzzy memories. Hearing an explosion “just before the plane hit the ground” could well be a misrecollection of an explosion immediately as/after the plane hit the ground, especially if the part of the plane that hit the ground first was a fairly good distance from where the passenger was seated.
Overshooting runways is certainly not a terrorist MO. Too big a chance of having lots of survivors, as emergency rescue and firefighting equipment will be very nearby.
The only mystery behind the Polish plane crash is how the Polish government could be so colossally stupid as to allow so many of their most senior leaders to be on the same flight. Even your average mid-size corporation has very strict rules prohibiting this sort of thing. And it’s not something terrorists can make happen. Of course, it’s possible that terrorists got wind of this colossally stupid plan and hurried to take advantage of it, but I doubt it.
