Mosquito Magnets get good grades in South Florida. It takes a while to wipe out your local herd, but once it’s got control it limits the resurgence.

I spent a lot of time, money and effort to screen in my front porch just so I could go outside in the Spring, Summer and Fall without being eaten alive by the mosquitos. They love me, I hate them.

What I read was you buy one, then gift it to your neighbor.
Then all the skeeters get attracted to HIS yard.

Check out the user reviews at Amazon before buying ANY of these systems.

I bought a couple of small, kerosene lanterns...the metal kind...we burn citronella oil in them and they seem to work fairly well while sitting out on the porch.
They are much cheaper than those gizmoes you have to buy continuous refills for and they give off a nice glow. We use two of them, one at each end of a 25 foot porch, on metal hangers so as not to get the siding too hot.
Also, Avon's "Skin so Soft" (the orginal kind) works pretty well for me, and it doesn't smell bad like OFF does. I don't know what is in it that does it, but it works...I wish they made soap with that ingredient in it too.
For reference, we're in Georgia...near Atlanta.

When my husband was in the Marine Corps in NC, they told them to use the Skin So Soft. It must have worked, because all those Marines smelled good.

Some of my students insisted on using Skin So Soft instead of a DEET based repellent.
Results: Deet’ed student were not bitten, those students using Skin So Soft were munched on mercilessly by the mosquitos.
PS Just about nothing really works for long against deer flies.

It certainly smells better than “Off”. I use it all the time...and it works for me.

I have first hand experience with one of the Mosquito Magnets, it works. My friend has a backyard that is full of mosquitoes. He would have no chance of using his yard without it.
It took a while to get the mosquito count down, but it did come down. He had paid about $750 for his unit.

In 2003 I researched various devices for an overseas project and there were several that the US Coast Guard used to take down the skeeter population on several coastal islands.
Simply speaking they generated carbon dioxide vapors which attracted the skeeters which were then vacuumed into a desiccant chamber which would hold the dead and dried skeeters until emptied.
The were rated as very effective but I suppose like many other things you’ll get what you pay for.

I use 2 of these for outside...

And 2 or 3 of these are kept at the ready for inside use...
IMO, the worst sound in the world is hearing the
ZZzzzz... of a mosquito heading for your ear as you're trying to drift off to sleep.

3 parts water to 1 part vanilla. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on. It works.
