Lee DeWyze wins American Idol
The Examiner ^ | 05/27/2010 | Tomie Sandin

American Idol announced the winner for 2010 this evening. The fan favorite, Lee DeWyze took home the win.

Lee DeWyze has had his ups and downs this season, but sometimes that is a good thing. Everyone loves an underdog and Lee DeWyze was the underdog for American Idol...at least he was after Tim Urban was voted off.

Lee suffered from a lack of confidence, which we all can relate to, most have been in that situation at some point in their life.

Lee did not have a lack talent, Lee has a wonderful voice, he just came across as being vulnerable at times during his performance. A quality which is endearing. This vulnerability tugged on heart strings and garnished Lee with a huge fan base. This fan base was the reason Lee DeWyze won American Idol.

Crystal Bowersox has the better voice of the two American Idol finalists. But Crystal did not possess a likability. Her confidence level was so strong that she came across as being smug at times. This over confidence is quite possibly the reason Crystal did not earn the American Idol win.

Crystal Bowersox is by no means a loser. That lady will make it. A talent like that will not go unrecognized.

Congratulations go out to Lee DeWyze, the American Idol winner. He deserves all the best.

I thought She was the better entertainer. Lee just stands there and sings...couldn't pick him out of ten others on the radio.

Lee is nice, cute and unassuming.

Crystal has a bit of a chip on her shoulder...a defensive attitude covering some emotional pain, some "rough edges," IMO. I wonder where her mother is.

I think it's nice for both that they seem to have bonded...she said she had a crush on Lee early on.

They both are better off than this time last year. LOL!

This is the first season I ever watched. Much less to choose from since we cut back to bare bones. Simon wasn’t as bad as I expected him to be. He was actually pretty cool.

I’m happy with DeWyze winning. There were times when Crystal out performed him, and other times when he was stronger. I agree that she definitely did better on finale night.

I never saw Crystal as over confident or arrogant... Just strong and different. I hope that Lee gains confidence as his career progresses.

They’ll both do fine and I think others from the season will as well. I hope all of them are happy with themselves—I was impressed with how well they carried themselves.

I'm intrigued that they considered Bowersox "smug." IMO, Lee came across as someone that needed constant encouragement and was a bit high maintenence. Bowersox was a mature adult who didn't need coddling. Considering her circumstances, I doubt she has much time for silly drama.

Hopefully, Ms. Bowersox will find a record deal that will help her succeed. Only a couple of the American Idol winners have actually been huge successes.

She lost because no one wants to hear a whiny hippie sing about social justice. The days of Janis Joplin are past. People don’t want that crap anymore.

Crystal's style is like Melissa Etheridge, Trace Chapman and even Janis Joplin. These singers are so last century that I wonder if people today ever buy their records anymore.

And that's the problem with today's music industry, if you listen to the Top 40, it's all hip hop, rap and crap.

But then I grew up in the 70's, so I'm considered over the hill so as my daughter said -- what do I know?

Crystal was definately the best singer and performer. She had the stage "it" factor going for her. I liked her confidence in herself.

Lee does not have stage presence, cute but not entertaining, in fact he was just a boring singer. I would never buy any of his recordings, his sound is a dime a dozen.

Whereas, Crystal's voice, yes I would purchase her records. I put her in the same class as Bette Midler, Dolly, who have that distince sound of gutsy soul, their look is always on the trashy side. I would prefer that women stop putting all that trash tattoos on their arms and backs, hate that part. Crystal is the real winner and will GO far, Lee not so much.

I stopped watching after Siobhan was cut. Technically, Crystal’s the better singer, but they could use autotune on Siobhan, and mix that up with her screaming and a pretty good record could come out. It should actually. I can’t imagine actually spending 2 minutes ever to download for free anything from any AI contestant ever, unless I was doing the website for a venue that an AI contestant was playing at and I had to put a song clip online, or if someone I knew pretty well was playing on the record, or mentioned on the record, but I really really did like Siobhan.

Wonder what was living and breeding in Bowersox’ ‘hair’?
Tatooed and looking like she was missing a couple of teeth- and those clothes! Did she shop in the Goodwill garbage bins?

It all made you just want to shave her head and scrub her down with lye soap.

She refused to be ‘glamorized’ by AI.
Serves her right.

Considering all the crap programs ou there where unmarried men and women sleep together every 15 minutes and even cartoons like FAMILY GUY present toilet and barf humor (not to mention humor that mocks religion), I'd say American Idol is one of the FEW TV programs out there that the whole family can watch.

but I really really did like Siobhan.

Her performance with Aaron Kelly and the Bee Gees was one of the better ones last night.

It used to be the most popular show on TV. There are a lot of freepers. Bound to be some overlap. I’m a music person, I know someone really well who knows Daughtry pretty well, I think he was thanked on the last Daughtry album. So, I can’t avoid it, I suppose.

Well, I personally know one of the producers of Elliott Yamin’s first album and got a chance to meet the kid.

Nice kid, down to earth and doesn’t forget where he came from (he’s handicapped with diabetes and one bad ear he told me). And oh yeah, he’s got a great voice !

Didn’t watch it. Tried. Unless you’re rooting for someone, or trying to figure out who is gonna win, or have some intellectual reason to watch, you’re not gonna watch, because all AI is wall to wall suck pretty much. But it’s a show on the TV, and sometimes it’s the “best” show on TV. But when there are like 5 guys you don’t care about, and 1 girl who could sing who would be eliminated at some point, well, you figured out how it’s gonna go, and you knew that some dude would win. Most people on vftw figured on a Lee / Crystal final back a month and a half ago. I caught the last 10 minutes. Lee’s last song was absolutely awful. Probably due to the emotion or whatever, but atrocious.

"This is not a singing competition, this is a VOTING competition."

This is why I turn off American Idol after the audition shows. It's too darn frustrating to watch true talent lose, almost without fail, to "cute" (or at least American Idol's strange idea of "cute") and "marketable." I can't stand to watch any show where the winner is decided by audience phone calls.

Well, I don’t want to dump on the guy, but when people are really talking about unmarketable, we’re talking about Yamin, but AI has often had a lot of guys that I have trouble hearing outside of something as light as AC, not even Hot AC. Not saying he’s bad, just that the only radio formats for him would be AC.

She would need to become a man to win. Only men win now. Siobhan didn’t have the same problem Crystal did in letting the hair stylists and fashion coordinators play around with her image and look what help they were. Siobhan, a more interesting, prettier girl, is long gone and Crystal lasted as long as the girls can last since only middle aged women and preteen girls watch the show in any relevant numbers anymore.
I would say Crystal’s instincts with style were correct. She was “real” and that helped her. It didn’t hurt that she was the best singer.
