Lee DeWyze wins American Idol
The Examiner ^ | 05/27/2010 | Tomie Sandin

American Idol announced the winner for 2010 this evening. The fan favorite, Lee DeWyze took home the win.

Lee DeWyze has had his ups and downs this season, but sometimes that is a good thing. Everyone loves an underdog and Lee DeWyze was the underdog for American Idol...at least he was after Tim Urban was voted off.

Lee suffered from a lack of confidence, which we all can relate to, most have been in that situation at some point in their life.

Lee did not have a lack talent, Lee has a wonderful voice, he just came across as being vulnerable at times during his performance. A quality which is endearing. This vulnerability tugged on heart strings and garnished Lee with a huge fan base. This fan base was the reason Lee DeWyze won American Idol.

Crystal Bowersox has the better voice of the two American Idol finalists. But Crystal did not possess a likability. Her confidence level was so strong that she came across as being smug at times. This over confidence is quite possibly the reason Crystal did not earn the American Idol win.

Crystal Bowersox is by no means a loser. That lady will make it. A talent like that will not go unrecognized.

Congratulations go out to Lee DeWyze, the American Idol winner. He deserves all the best.

This whole season has been an awesome train wreck. Pig pen (Bowersox) can sing but she’s not a big label girl. Sorry Lee fans, but he is off-key most of the time and completely lacks charisma. I was cheering for a projectile hurl during the vote reveal. Lee was SOOO close.

Tim Urban saved the season as the VFTW champion. He was awful and corny but always entertaining.

Casey James and Bret Michaels stole the show last night. Frau-bait Casey might be the hottest one after all this is done.

I prefer the piercings to the tats. And sure, she wasn’t as “good” in that respect (histrionics), but that voice, those histrionics could possibly make a good, solid, interesting song. AI didn’t know how to write for her voice I suppose.

Have been an on and off American Idol watcher over the years. Only watched the last couple of weeks this year after viewing a few clips on youtube.com of Crystal and some other performers. I think the wrong contestant won, and probably due to the voting demographics which is apparently dominated by young and middle aged females.

To me, Lee has a quirky, off-voice that is not very appealing. He's no Rod Stewart, and his version of The Boxer some bragged on so much really fell flat with me. I think Crystal is one of the better singers ever on the show, and she was clearly the more talented and consistent performer this year.

Yes, Timmeh. VFTW win. And Casey has been the most easily marketable. That was easy to determine early on when Kara had trouble containing herself. There isn’t much authentic on that show (”we don’t know what kind of artist you want to be” - artist? “you want”?), but I do believe that Kara’s enthusiasm for Casey was authentic. I did catch part of Casey and Bret and I thought Casey sounded even better than the guy that just had the stroke. I think Siobhan does have the greatest upside but that might be hard to accomplish.

Simon Barsinister bailed on this franchise at exactly the right time.

It was actually a pretty great show last night and all of the analyses are right. She had a much better voice, demonstrated completely when they were singing with Joe Cocker. She blew the roof off.

But she was so cold and uninteresting I just couldn't imagine her succeeding like Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson.

There is no doubt that the fans you get from AI can be turned into money. If your goal is to turn your fans into money for you, yes, you DIY. If you’re smart, or have smart management, or advisors, you can figure out ways to maximize the income from your fans.

But, he’s still the worst AI album seller (or close). I’m not dumping on the guy. One of the AI people has to be the worst.

I wondered where Adam was last night. Just about everyone was there who had won or who was a runner up. He owes every bit of fame and fortune he ever gets to A.I. so its weird he was a no show.

I disagree. If it was all about “women under 20” Casey James would have won walking away. Lee had to have had some real jazz fans in his corner and that’s older men.

Hopefully, Ms. Bowersox will find a record deal that will help her succeed. Only a couple of the American Idol winners have actually been huge successes.

This gal is probably had a real hard life. I hope that she will be picked up, polish up the voice and looks, and her career will be a huge success in the Country pop field. Believe she can follow Kelly and Carrie as one hell of a fantastic stage performer. People that have had a hard life, and once they have a chance, can become very successful.

Women under 20 include 11 year olds and 19 year olds. 11 year olds watch idol much more often than 19. The 11 year olds liked Timmeh and Aaron. The 19 year olds aren’t really a voting block. Middle aged fat women liked Lee and also Casey, but I think Casey’s long hair was a little too edgy for them. That’s the primary voting block - the frauen. Frauen who are also cougars - definitely for Casey. Kara is a frauen / cougar. Older men who are jazz fans voting for Lee?

I wondered where Adam was last night.

He might have been there. When the bulk of that big group of former winners and runners-up came on stage at the end of that number, they never really panned up and down that long line enough that each person there could be recognized.

The final half hour of that show was poorly done to me, with too many numbers and too many people. And I sure had no desire to see Janet Jackson in a bit that seemed to go on and on and on. The final part was just too cluttered. And my station cut away almost immediately after the winner was announced since it had overrun a good bit.

Here’s Crystal Bowersox as a struggling artist busking in the train station of Chicago when she was still an unknown, struggling artist :

After seeing what she’s gone through (having to support a son as a single mom in the process), I should never bitch about life again.

Actually Taylor Hicks is not. See Post #25 above.

Whatever musical style Patty Griffin is is the musical style Crystal is. I’d say acoustic female singer-songwriter / folk / blues. And the radio format AAA - see radio station WXPN for one. No brainer, and I think that Crystal has credibility, as least for an AI contestant. One of the A’s in AAA is Alternative. AI contestants are rarely credibly Alternative.
So, they get a contestant from AI on AAA, not a big format, but a victory that they can possibly use strategically in some way perhaps.

Nonsense. Every teenage girl I know (and I know a whole lot of 'em) and every friend they had, was insane over Casey and I mean insane. They mobbed the phones for Chris Allen and hated Glambert.

I actually thought the Mexican kid had the best, most unique voice, but zero sex appeal.

You know, re-reading my post, it sounds like I don’t like Lee...and that’s not accurate. He’s good; not my fave, but he’s good. Can’t take anything away from him, and there is something to be said for the nice guy winning out.

Why ? Well because he's more commercial and people buy commercial. That's all I can say.

Two names come to mind: Taylor Hicks and Chris Allen.

Recent AI winners who went on to anonymity.

Oh, you’re right. I forgot about Janet Jackson. Her total lack of talent was blinding and she brought the entire show to a halt. I was thinking about the Bret Michaels surprise and Chicago and Cocker and Michael McDonald. The tribute to Simon was terrific, although Jimmy Kimmel had a funnier one.

As I said earlier, I don’t really understand today’s radio anyway, seeing as how that Ke$ha entity is currently experiencing her second top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 with CRAP MUSIC, while Allison Iraheta’s devastatingly good ‘’Don’t Waste the Pretty’’ presses its nose against the glass and awaits some kind of recognition from Clear Channel and its ilk.

I would like to suspect some sort of payola going on with radio station management but I don’t have the evidence except my own personal feelings ( which as you know, you can’t go by ). Suffice it to say that today, CRAP MUSIC REIGNS SUPREME ON THE TOP 40 RADIO.
