Someone else's crying kid can be annoying, but one man in Surfside took the matter into his own hands and now police are looking to get their hands on him.
The unidentified man allegedly grabbed, then slapped a 3-year-old girl for crying loudly while they were in a grocery store elevator earlier this month.
The grumpy old man then bolted out of the elevator and away from store employees as the mom frantically tried to explain what happened, surveillance video taken just after the incident shows. "He just went and grabbed at her face. And she says that her skin hurt from it. He just grabbed at her face, and he wouldn't take his hand off,"the child's mom told WSVN. The mom's other daughter, who was also in the elevator, was not attacked. The video doesn't show a good picture of the man's face, but police have put up flyers looking for the vigilante disciplinarian.
The suspect is described as a man in his 50s with a wrinkly, tanned face. He is around 6'3 and weighs about 180 pounds.
If you have information about the incident, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
Mom should have maced/tasered the jerk.

This didn’t happen in FL, did it?
That’s a good way to get your ass handed to you in some places.
Not excusing the grumpy old man, by any means.
First, what grocery store has an elevator?
Second, did Mom apologize or try to hush the toddler at all?
If a guy assaulted my daughter in an elevator, he’d be lucky to get out of the elevator without being shot.

Crist! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!
“Crist! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!”
Heh heh heh....
Ditto. Anyone who lays hands on Baby Chan without my permission had better have paid-up burial insurance. No kidding.
Fussy kids are worse than barking dogs. Parents, curb your kid.
Sometimes a mother just cannot “hush” a toddler. I doesn’t work that way.
Did the kid shut up?
Of course.
It's in Miami, so the elevator is probably for all the little rascals in their Little Rascals.
Oh shoot! I forgot to send in that bill!
That's why they shouldn't be inflicted on the general public. Children, small dogs, and liberals should be kept at home, where they can't cause problems.
That said, touch one of my grandkids, and the grumpy old man would have to unbutton his fly to see where he was going.

Anyone want to bet alcohol was involved?
Heavy boot, old drunk’s ass, some assembly required.
We had an incident like this in Lubbock a few years ago. A 68 year old man with a phenomenally loud voice started screaming at a 4 year old for not getting out of his way at a local video store. The child burst into tears and the old bastage started laughing and taunting her. The clerk and some bystanders intervened, at which point the offender pulled rank. He was a professor of human services, alcohol counseling in fact, and was falling down drunk. The police were not impressed with his august position and threw him in jail.
WTF? People need to learn to control their brat kids. Why should the public at large have to listen to their whining and mewling and general misbehaviour?
Kids cry. Part of life.
(But yes, it is annoying).
Sure she can. My mother did it with the three of us all the time. And on the single occasion I can recall that hushing my brother did not work, all of us left, with Mom apologizing profusely to all in her path.
As long as the parent is actively taking steps to solve the problem, most people are quite tolerant. It’s when the parent is letting the child wail, holler, whine, or otherwise carry on, and is clearly ignoring those bad behaviors, that people like me get snarky and are inspired to post about them on Websites.
You’re not a parent, are you?
Yeah and pompous donkeys are worse than crying kids. Pompous donkeys, go take a flying leap.
The little children are a blessing from the Lord. If I had a fussy little child I sure to heck am not going to shove my hand over his/her mouth to shut him/her up just so the “nice stranger” doesn’t have to hear a little fussing/crying from a baby for crying out loud! It is the nature of kids to cry and babies to fuss. People like this man need Get over it, and themselves.

How are things over on Fantasyland Drive? Sasquatch still run the HOA?
Oh, let me guess, you were never a little kid and YOU never cried. Or no wait, you did cry but mama beat the crap outta you when you did and that’s why you have an intolerant attitude to this day?
One of my favorite restaurants is a place where the owner kicks people out if a kid starts misbehaving and the parents fail to remove the child and allow it to continue. He’s been known to get a round of applause from the other diners when he does this, too.
Exactly! It’s amazing to see ANYONE actually excusing this old man’s behavior. This place is becoming a version of DU.
That’s a little different from some crazy old fart attacking a small child, isn’t it?
Did I equate the two?
Evidently.
Well, this thread isn’t about snorkeling.
While I agree somewhat - that gives no-one the right to manhandle my child - period!
Seriously, how long does an elevator ride take that this guy would become so aggravated as to resort to striking a crying tot? If it's more than a few minutes in a place such as a restaurant, you say something to the parent(s).
On a brief elevator ride? C'mon!
Dollars to donuts, this guy is an entitled lib.
I’ve never had an abortion or cancer, either.
And I’m pretty sure I can speak to the heinousness of both without having to live them.
So seriously, don’t give me that “you don’t know my life” crap. My sister has three, and they’re all very well-behaved. Better than we three were, in fact.
So yes, I am well aware that it can be done. It’s what the parent chooses to do about it that’s the point.
I agree. The issue is with poor parenting that takes fussy kids and trains them to be ‘rats.
You know this happened on an elevator, right? Where should Mom have taken the kids, up the emergency hatch?
Kid’s crying is supposed to be annoying. Otherwise a kid could die from hunger, sickness, or lack of ice cream. It’s just survival mechanism evolved over millions of years. The non-annoying ones died young.
Get a bark collar for the brat. If it works on Fido it will work on this kid! :-)
If my kid was crying in a restaurant or library, I’d take him outside until he quiets down. If my kid is crying in a grocery store and I’m pushing a cart full of groceries, those around me can just suck it up. Kids cry. Big deal. Anyone other than me lays a finger on my crying kid and they’ll very quickly regret it.
“
Grumpy Old Man Attacks Toddler for Crying in Elevator
“
Although impractible for a couple of elevator transits per day...
The Grumpy Old Man might follow my regimen for surviving airline flights
full of crying babies and young kids intent of putting a shoe up
my, er, derriere.
Drugs. Over the counter drugs.
Diphenydramine (Dramimine) and/or Doxycycline (sp?) Succinate.
Both easily obtainable at WalMart in generic form at very reasonable prices.
Many is the time I’ve been deboarding a long (3-hour plus) flight and
have folks ask me how I survived one of the little screaming mee-mees
of civilian aviation travel.
I just tell them “Drugs”. Which I discovered due to my battle with
Meniere’s Disease (inner-ear dis-equilibrium).
While I don't agree with what the man did I can say that back when I worked in a grocery store was when I decided I didn't want to have any of my own. There were a few who would start howling when they entered the door and not stop until Mommy bought them something and was on their way out the door.I was never allowed to do that in a store my Mother would stop shopping and remove us all to go home if any of us started acting like that.
I am and x has it right imo.
You never cried, for any reason, when you were a kid?
My kids have cry in public, sometimes it's a fit, sometimes they're hurt. For fits, they are warned, then removed.
For hurt, sometimes crying doesn't stop.
Since the story says she was in an elevator, maybe the mom was trying to remove said kid from everyone else's earshot.
Have cry = Have cried
Now I know why my mother always carried a wickedly sharp hatpin when we went shopping. She used to say it was for mashers lol. But I bet she would have stabbed a grumpy old man with it in a flash had he touched one of her babies. If a child is cranky I wouldn’t take him/her shopping but sometimes children cry. You do your best to hush them. If any man or woman laid a hand on my child it wouldn’t be pretty.
No sympathy for baby-slappers. She should have ball-tapped him real good. He wouldn’t have run away so quickly.
“Fussy kids are worse than barking dogs. Parents, curb your kid.”
I agree 100%. There is nothing worse than a brat in public.
