Al and Tipper Gore separating after 40 years of marriage
Washington Post ^

... "We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further." Gore's spokeswoman later confirmed the validity of the e-mail....

The news stunned many political watchers -- the duo's mutually affectionate manner on the campaign trail did much to enliven Al Gore's stuffy image -- but also good friends.

"I'm shocked -- beyond shocked," said Chris Downey, a close friend for many years who said she spoke to Tipper last week. "This is the least likely course of events I could imagine."

...

The Los Angeles Times reported last month that the couple bought an $8.8 million home in Montecito, Calif., this spring.

They met in high school -- she attended the Alexandria school that is now St. Stephen's and St. Agnes, while he went to St. Alban's -- and wed in May 1970 at Washington National Cathedral. They have four grown children -- Karenna, Kristin, Sarah and Albert -- and three grandchildren.

How about we give you as much privacy in this as you Dems gave the Palins?

Something stinks here. Hey, what was it about Gore's military record? That was before the days of "Don't ask, don't tell." Wonder where Al stands on that issue?

I’ve always sort of expected this to happen.

I see Gore as a lying hypocrite, and somehow Tipper always struck me as someone who has trouble with that.

I really don’t know. I’m just not surprised to see this.

Why is the close friend, David Downey, shocked when I don't know them or care to be in the same room not shocked?

There certainly can't be enough room in any marriage for an ego and the weirdness the size of Al Gore.......

algore has certainly gone off the deep end. We all joke about his appoplectic fits, but I suspect he’s somewhat unstable. Tipper prolly sees the really bad stuff.

You are right.....I cannot imagine what he must be like on a day to day basis...he may need professional help but it is tough for people with his sense of self importance to seek the help he needs

It’s funny that the tabloids were always claiming the Bushes were separating when in fact it was the Gore’s having marital problems.

Wonder who is divorcing whom?

It might not be Tipper demanding the divorce. Algore may have invested in viagra and wants to see it work.
