Manute Bol -- best known for being one of the tallest players to ever play in the NBA -- died today, according to various reports.
Bol was hospitalized in Virgina back in May after suffering acute kidney failure.
Bol played in the NBA from 1985-1994 and was one of the best shot blockers in the league. Bol was extremely involved in charities in his native Sudan -- donating an estimated $3.5 million aid Sudanese refugees.
He was 47.

There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that he turned sideways and fell through the shower drain.

I don’t follow the NBA but it sounds to me like a very good man has passed. I’m sorry to hear of this.

Weird. I was just thinking about him yesterday wondering what happened to “freaks of nature” (for lack of a better term) like him that used to play in the NBA. I think he could dunk without leaving his feet.

Very sad, he played during an era when not every NBA player was a thug.

Coaches of opposing teams often trained their players about his defense by getting in the key with a broom to swat down shots. Manute once blocked a freethrow without leaving his position along the side of the paint.

Besides his obvious shot-blocking skills, I remember his unusual but effective 3-point shooting style.

Now that was a tall dude. Overly tall people seem to pass on earlier in life than most. RIP, M.B.
