SAN FRANCISCO(Dow Jones)--A series of documents purported to be plans for the Windows 8 operating system suggest Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) wants to be more like the company it nearly put out of business: Apple Inc. (AAPL).
On Monday, several blogs posted slides supposedly from a Microsoft presentation on the next version of its ubiquitous operating system. Some of those slides reference Apple and its "virtuous cycle" of product development. The slides also reference an operating system for a slate computer, presumably a device like Apple's newly-released iPad.
Microsoft Journal and Microsoft Kitchen, two blogs that write about the company, were among the sites posting the documents.
A Microsoft spokeswoman declined to comment on the documents or verify their authenticity.
The apparent Microsoft documents call for an operating system that...

I love seeing stuff like this. With computer technology, the sky is the limit. AND, you don’t have to be a MacFreak or PCDroid to reap the benefits.
Wow! That was the most ignorant Apple bashing post I have read in the past week, and boy have their been a lot of them.
Posted from my iPad.
;^)
Care to point out any mistakes in what I wrote? You cannot cut and paste files by default, you cannot print screen without using 3 buttons, and you cannot just click on an open document once minimized or even see where it is - ALL STUPID, except I guess for Apple fan boys.
And these are just a few of the inane things Apple has built in to their OS, nearly every normal simple thing you can acomplish with Windows you need to buy a 3rd party app for Apple cause its not allowed or not available in the default OS.
Oh let me add one more try deleting files off a removable storage such as an SD card then remove the card - Apple leaves the card full because it just moves all the files to its .Trash folder until you clear the Trash can on your desktop - because again Apple treats its users as if they were idiots, when you want to delete files, Apple says oh no you really don’t want to do that.
BTW I write this from first hand experience because I also own several apple laptops which I am required to use alongside my numerous windows machines.
So again care to explain where I am being ignorant? Or are you just peeved that I dared to speak against the holy Apple and call it for what it is; a steaming pile of Obama?
It sounds like you’re ready to try Linux.
I already use Ubuntu for some of our custom built IDS boxes, but its too much work to use as my everyday machine, I like windows for normal stuff click click it works call me lazy but yeah :)
Did you try "grap" before your brilliant remarks?
“grap” = “grab”

You may like Linux Mint
It is based on Ubuntu, with a very strong emphasis on user friendliness.
I'm currently using the Mint 8 Fluxbox edition because of the low resources it needs on my older PC. (PIII-800, 512Mb RAM)
Highly recommend Mint if you want something easy to use!
What portion of Windows do you call Windows Classic? I have an older machine that looks and pretty much acts like Windows XP, just more stable.
WHATEVER IT TAKES TO PLAY FALLOUT 3!
“What portion of Windows do you call Windows Classic?”
There are several places that I change; the start menu, control panel, file explorer, I change all those back to the pre-XP look. I totaly dislike the look XP introduce and that MS kept building up with Vista and now 7 and 2008 server, all those big icons and pictures just get in the way I just want the stuff not pretty pictures :)
The problem with 7 and 2008 R2 is that you can no longer choose to go to that old classic view :(
“You may like Linux Mint”
I’ll throw that on a virtual machine sometime and play with it, sounds interesting :)
(or being lazy as I am look around to see if someone already has a ready built VM of it XD )
Once again, MS is forced to copy Apple, which is what they have been doing since Apple introduced the GUI. MS owes its very existence to the fact that Bill Gates' mom was a pal of an IBM exec. Now even IBM has outgrown his racket. MS survives solely on the inertia of fools who buy junk in big box stores and never look at the competition.
Once you stop hyperventilating, try Command-Backspace (or Command-Delete). Works wonders for deleting files while bypassing the Trash.
Don't try to force Windows behavior onto Mac OS X (or Linux). They are similar, but not identical, graphical operating systems. Expecting operating system A to behave exactly like operating system B, rather than letting the operating system teach you how to use it, is a guaranteed recipe for frustration.
I'm sure some poor child in Zimbabwe is missing out on a computer because of you.

I don't know anything at all about virtual machines.
But Linux Mint (like many other distros) comes as a "Live CD" (or DVD)
All you need to do is download and burn it to a CD (burn CD image, NOT simply save file on CD)
Anyway, once you have a CD, change your BIOS to boot from CD instead of your Hard Drive, and WaaaaaLAAA!!! You are taking linux for a test drive!
(Bootin from CD is slower than booting from HD. The HD will be faster if you decide to install.)
Just don't click on the icon or menu to install on your hard drive (if you do, don't worry because you can usually cancel and stop.)
Here's a webpage with all Mint releases
Mint 9 "Isadora" is the latest.
Click on that link and choose between CD/DVD 32/64 bit and Gnome, KDE or LXDE desktops to try.
Mint 8 "Helena" (what I have) is a little older but still supported.
It has fewer 64 bit versions, but Fluxbox or Xfce desktops in addition to the others if you would prefer giving those a whirl.
Live CDs are an easy way to try a distro.
If you want to try something else, Distrowatch is a good place to reasearch all the ones that are available.
But I really don't think you'll find anything much easier than Mint. That's what they're famous for.
Enjoy!
Oh, if you happen to have a computer that can boot from those little memory sticks, some distros let you do that.
I have Puppy Linux installed on a 8 Gb stick that I use on rare occasion on a little Netbook that normally runs WinXP. But I don't like the netbook because it's too small and hard on my eyes. I prefer my old desktop.
Windows was born a Mac OS wannabe.
Windows will die a Mac OS wannabe.
