Early Review of PREDATORS (Looks good from few early reviews)
Urban Cinefile ^ | July 5, 2010 | Louise Keller

Delivering on its promise, Predators is a moody, unrelenting and attention-grabbing sci-fi thriller, filled with action, splendid visual effects and packed with undulating tension. True to its 80s film origins, and using its broad concept as a springboard, the ante of the premise of an invisibly cloaked extra terrestrial warrior is raised and a twist added. The dense jungle may be like the Amazon, but the location is planets away, and the writers that producer Robert Rodriguez has commissioned, have cleverly made the problem of relocating its human characters one of the intriguing plot points. Beyond its spectacular effects and mega-budget, it's good old fashioned entertainment of the B-movie kind, with a strong premise, nicely drawn characters and ace performances from a team of actors spearheaded by Adrien Brody, that make us give more than a damn.

Look like I finally have a reason to go see a summer movie. Sluts and metrosexual vampires do not do it for me, hee hee.

It looks like one of the most windless movies of all time. I’ll pass.

What, you need a little breezy entertainment :)

I know what you meant. Just having fun while I agree with you...

As long as it it is technically credible/accurate, and the characters are not profoundly stupid, running towards obvious danger (a la Jurassic Park 2), I think it looks good. Good escapist entertainment.

I am always suspicious of ANY movie where a 135 lb woman can physically kick a 230 lb man across the room. We’ll see ...

I’ll wait for it on Netflix. I got all excited for Aliens3, Alien Resurrection, the two HORRIBLE AVP movies......sigh.....the Aliens/Predators franchise has run its course. I just can’t get excited after so many disappointments.

The cast looks good, and there are multiple Predators, one of which has a Predator hunting dog..thing..critter..something.

As for Alien, Ridley Scott is set to direct the next one so that should be interesting..

the AVP movies were pretty excruciating.

IMHO:

Alien: Good

Aliens: Better

Alien3: Not as good, but not a waste of time, either.

Alien Resurrection: Top 5 worst movies I've ever seen. Killed the only character I liked, first. Best part of the movie, wasn't even in the movie. Do you remember the scene where all of the scientists were stuck up on the walls? My buddy, having stomached about all he could, stood up in the middle of the theater and started singing "Always look on the Bright Side of Life". The audience (all 10 or so of us) died laughing.

Well, maybe you needed to be there. But, geez, that was a baaaaaad movie.

To me, the Alien movies stopped at #3, and I barely liked #3 but it was interesting.

Dumbest thing in Sci-Fi... an alien, an armored alien at that, gets sucked out into space, through a BULLET HOLE. Never mind that you could simply plug up that hole with the palm of your hand.. noooo, they spaghetti-fied poor sad Mr Alien into space...

True, pretty much at that point, I was rooting for the Alien to eat the director. Maybe the producer and anyone else who was involved with that stinker.

IMHO, Alien Resurrection is on a par with "Wing Commander" and "Highlander II" (there should have been only one) in the annals of Sci-Fi movie badness.

I saw a preview for it last night. It looked rather entertaining. But I love movies like this so I may not be a good judge of a trailer. :-)

I'm with you. When the original Predator came out, it got only ONE freaking star. It was perhaps my favorite movie of the year.

I recently saw a list of "Top 20 movies the Critics got Wrong", and Predator was on the list.

I used to work with a 110 lb. woman who could kick the hell out of the 250 lb. cop she was training. She was the Sensei; he was already trained in martial arts.

She was an African-American-Okinawan hybrid. Awesome karate master. Cute, too, but too dangerous to date.
