TOLEDO -- The Toledo Zoo keeps adding more members to its family but one of its newest additions had a rough road to travel to get to the Glass City.
An African Elephant named Twiggy was taken from a private facility that the government felt was not taking care of her properly.
They brought her to the Toledo Zoo in February because of the zoo's reputation for taking care of pachyderms.
Since then, Twiggy has gained 500 pounds and is adjusting well to her new home.
"With Twiggy things are going great, she's introduced to Renee and Louie, things are going great with them and were watching their behavior and were seeing the behavior we want to see with a new animal being introduced in the group," said Don Redfox, Toledo Zoo Elephant Facility.
Twiggy will be staying in the African Savannah with Louie and his mother Renee.
I’d bet on the Rhino
Don’t piss off an elephant.
I agree. Since the rhino is invisible the hippo and the elephant will never see him.
Rhinos have that wicked horn that just looks so deadly.
Well maybe, but there is no Rino in that picture, just a hippo and an Elephant.:)
Reminds me of the primaries.
Always be prepared for the unexpected.
And this is why most zoos won’t keep male elephants.
He's there. You just can't see him (see Post # 7.)
