Letter to Editor: Red, white, and blue — and a sea of white (Mass. moonbat)
Boston Globe ^ | 7/7/10 | Mary Lou Eshelman

Posted on 07/10/2010 12:03:41 AM PDT by raccoonradio

(Boston Globe reader writes:) I WATCHED the Fourth of July Esplanade program and fireworks on TV. The last part of the program was broadcast across the United States, presumably as an example of what a true American celebration should look like. I searched in vain for more than a few faces in the crowd that weren’t Caucasian, and couldn’t imagine what people of color must have thought to see that huge group of white people. Even the representatives of the armed services and the Boston Pops itself were overwhelmingly white.

I’m not sure what the reason is behind this lack of participation of people of color in this event. I would suspect that they don’t feel welcome, and I would be interested to know why, and what can be done about that. At any rate, I was embarrassed for our city of Boston, which is trying hard to project an image of inclusion and to leave behind the racism of the past.

some responses to the letter on Globe site:

>>Why wouldn’t it be? Massachusetts is 83% white.

<<The solution would be for people of color to just show up. It’s free, it’s easy to get to, and one doesn’t need an invitation. No one or nothing is stopping them from being there.

—Mary Lou,

Surely, you jest.

How you feel that counting ‘white faces’ on a television broadcast (at best an exercise in subjective bean counting) allows you to make some sort of generalization about the inclusiveness of our society, or the nature of the crowd, eludes me. Are you aware cameras are set up to get the best shots of any given event and not for a shallow survey the visually apparent racial makeup of those who attend?
At the very least, you should be reminded that Martin Luther King hoped his children would “…not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”, and counting ‘white’ (or any color) noses in a crowd is in conflict with his very fine ideal.

more:
—I’m offended that your first response is to accuse your fellow Bostonians of racism. You didn’t have to say the word...it’s pretty obvious that’s what you’re telling us by assuming people of color “didn’t feel welcome.”

&&—How come you are so stuck on race? You need to get past it. Based on your name and your location (Newton), it doesn’t surprise me that you are probably a white person that feels guilty for being white. Why did you assume people of color don’t feel welcome? You’re being absolutely ridiculous and I truly feel sorry for you.

—People in America are free to attend or not attend public events as they wish. (I didn’t go either). It’s called Freedom. It’s a beautiful thing.

00This moonbat has some serious issues. Imagine how stupid one has to be to watch a celebration of America’s birthday and come up with this? I’m sure this dingbat moonbat lives in a very diverse neighborhood.

—I found Ms. Eshelman’s Facebook™ Page, and looked at her friends list. I searched in vain for more than a few faces in the list that weren’t Caucasian, and couldn’t imagine what people of color must have thought to see that huge group of white people..... I’m not sure what the reason is behind this lack of participation of people of color in her life. I would suspect that they don’t feel welcome, and I would be interested to know why, and what can be done about that.

Liberals hate Math, even the very simple one. There is a reason why the vast majority of liberal has some type of arts and humanities degrees.

Are they Negroids or Negros?

No, that’s politically incorrect.

Are they Mongoloids or Mongols?

No, that’s politically incorrect.

Are they Causoids or Caucasions?

....yes.

I guess not all racism is equal.

I suggest we pass around a hat to raise enough money for a one-way ticket to Zimbabwe for Ms Mary Lou Eshelman

Its one thing for an idiot like Mary Lou Eshelman to write this crap, but its another for the Boston Globe to publish it!

You are an idiot.

I just deleted the whole rest of my post. I am seriously thinking of just staying off the Internet for anything but email.

The idiots are everywhere.

First, Massachusetts is only 5% black.

"I was embarrassed for our city of Boston, which is trying hard to project an image of inclusion and to leave behind the racism of the past."

Is it really? Most Bostonians are Democrat types, the same type people who just lionized Klan leader Robert Byrd. There is nothing "inclusive" about Democrats.

I live in Boston, have lived in the city or around it for my whole life, and for the first time am seriously considering moving away. I seem to be an idiot magnet lately, and have been talking to democrats about politics.

They know nothing about the political situation. I stress this: NOTHING. They "know" in their gut all they need to know. Gov. Palin, Scott Brown, George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan--all are not just pols they don't like, they're evil. Ted Kennedy was a saint. I engage these people on issues, citing specific policies, actions, votes, bills--they know NOTHING about any of them.

They Just Know.

I used to revel in destroying these people. That they were liberal didn't bother me because I was stupid enough to believe that once they read, looked into history, eduated themselves on policy, or (Gaia forbid!) actually worked with the homeless, troubled kids and folks who are trying to play the system (as I have done and do now--never a government employee, but all the jobs I've had the last 8 years or so have been with companies that work with these groups)--well, I thought their brain cells might actually lead them to logical conclusions.

I don't think I was dumb, I think I just have always believed that if enough information was available and people were TRULY interested in reality, they'd investigate and learn.

I guess I never admitted that this emotion-based Oprah-era way of not thinking but just Believing has taken over massive sections of our population, and will never, ever be turned back.

Indeed, there is nothing inclusive about Democrats, but they actually believe that counting the number of "non-white" faces (as opposed to the true diversity--thought and belief) is what someone who's worried about inclusion actually does. Their lack of insight into their own souls is staggering.

Obviously Eric Holder’s Department Of Racial Insanity needs to investigate, then arrest all of Boston for Felony Celebrating While Caucasian.

I never heard the “n” word used daily by natives of a city until I moved to Boston while attending college. Yes, I’m from the South.

Mary Lou Eshelman Newton

Newton, also known as Snewton. Heavily Jewish of the most Mao loving, Israel hating, America hating but living on the academic/finance/social service teat lefties you'd ever meet who couldn't fix a tire or hang a picture if their lives depend upon it but will tell you how to run the world. No one listens to them, except people in Brookline and Cambridge.
