Mel Gibson's Career Seems Over
The Daily Beast ^ | 07/11/2010

Posted on 07/11/2010 9:27:31 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Mel Gibson seemed to weather the media firestorm that followed his drunk-driving arrest and anti-Semitic rant in 2006.

A handful of Hollywood types called for a boycott, but Gibson’s apology tour somewhat smoothed things over. But the latest example of the actor’s bigotry—tapes of him threatening his girlfriend with awful racist and sexist taunts—is surely the final nail in the coffin. Gibson’s been dropped by his agency, William Morris Endeavor, just after his longtime agent Ed Limato died.

He hasn’t been a bankable star much recently, even though peers like Bruce Willis still nab action roles. Gibson may be able to make movies under his Icon production banner, but who would consider working with Gibson worth the risk to his or her reputation? Though he may have an international audience left, and could make a movie exclusively for another continent, who in North America would bankroll it?

Did he get angry in public?

Getting caught on tape using the n-word (and in the context of gang rape) will kill a career, real fast.

“He’s got to do something to make living worthwhile. He just has the URGE to do something.”

***

And he’s doing something — not necessarily good things.

Maybe he should get into collecting stamps or something. Would certainly cause him less trouble.

If Alec Baldwin leaves messages like this for his 12 year old daughter, I wonder how he sounds when he his breaking up with a nasty (grownup) Hollywood girlfriend.

>His response — Ennui and Boredom..

The fact that he knows the term “Ennui” at all is a tribute.
I would wager that at least 95% of Americans wouldn’t have a clue...

Interesting observation -- How's Chris Brown's career after he beat Rihanna ?

But see, Alec didn't use the N-Word like Mel did, that's why Alec still gets work in Hollywood.

It seems to me after his affair became public..He became unbalanced. In spite of he and his wife’s problems, she seemed to keep him in some kind of check.

When he lost Robyn he became undone.

my opinion anyway.

Gibson’s kinda been on Hollywood’s hit list ever since the “Passion” came out. Other celebrities get away with things just as bad or worse on a daily basis and the industry covers for them. Whatever, he has enough cash to finance his own projects if he wants to.

The Passion had nothing to do with the Bible, it was an almost verbatim copy of Anne Cathering Emerich’s book.

It wasn’t scriptural at all, it was Emerich’s book entirely

What an idiotic self aggrandizing piece of garbage-—Gibson can self finance and has no need of the W morris agcy. or anyone else.

Ari Emmanuel as a genocide promoter (canceled J-LO concert) has lots more worries than Gibson.

What's the big deal about the PASSION ? This isn't the first time the life of Christ crucifixion was depicted on film. Count them --- THE KING OF KINGS, THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD, JESUS OF NAZARETH, etc.

ALL of the above films recount the Passion, the teachings of Christ, etc. Why this obsessive focus on Gibson's film ? What makes it DIFFERENT ?

Maybe he wasn’t acting in those “Mad” Max or Lethal Weapon movies.

As for financing, I don’t think he needs anyone to bank roll his films. And if “nobody” will work with him that’s all for the better. Maybe they would go back to the good old days of having real character actors.

What made it different was the portrayal of the Jews in it.
