Mel Gibson seemed to weather the media firestorm that followed his drunk-driving arrest and anti-Semitic rant in 2006.
A handful of Hollywood types called for a boycott, but Gibson’s apology tour somewhat smoothed things over. But the latest example of the actor’s bigotry—tapes of him threatening his girlfriend with awful racist and sexist taunts—is surely the final nail in the coffin. Gibson’s been dropped by his agency, William Morris Endeavor, just after his longtime agent Ed Limato died.
He hasn’t been a bankable star much recently, even though peers like Bruce Willis still nab action roles. Gibson may be able to make movies under his Icon production banner, but who would consider working with Gibson worth the risk to his or her reputation? Though he may have an international audience left, and could make a movie exclusively for another continent, who in North America would bankroll it?
Completely forgot about that film. I saw it on the day it opened.
Mel screwed up big time. He will weather it but it will take time. What is interesting is how selective the outrage is. I find far more damning the actors who defend tyrannical socialist dictators and in a better world their careers would be over. Instead a person says dumb angry things in fit of rage and they are an indication of character or lack their of? No I don’t buy it. The cold calculating hate of the left is far more deserving of ostracization but it will never get it’s due. I don’t defend Mel’s stupid angry statements but to say such statements are the sum of the man is wrong when evil walks in plain sight and is broadcast to millions as if normal and good.
I just watched his movie “edge of darkness” i believe and it was awsome! and he was great in it.
I’ll continue to go to his movies as much as possible because i like his movies. He’s entitled to his opinions. he’s entitled to like or dislike anyone he wants and i really don’t care.

Reminds me of a Doonesbury back when it was sometimes funny. He had his super rich rockstar character take up stamp collecting so the rockstar calls up his stamp dealer and says send over every stamp put out by a certain country whose name I cannot recall and then hangs up. Rockstar then turns to his wife and says well that was fun now what country should I collect next.

I hope he discovers that his gifts and talents-his judgment, and his popularity can be taken away by God just as easily as they were given to him, and that now he may become humbled before God and man.
To be blunt, it wasn’t just that he used the N-word, but used it in such an derogatory fashion that it’s really hard to explain or excuse it away. It doesn’t really get much worse than suggesting that your wife is going to raped by “N-words” based on the way she dressed.
If he's a mean drunk, that could explain his rages...Had a friend that was funny and personalble, very likable, but at a certain point of drink, (you could see it coming) he turned mean as hell....didn't remember it the next day...
You are right about the importance of the distribution issue, BUT I believe Mel has his own distribution company.
FYI He is Rahm’s brother — and J-LO was the one who canceled the concert NOT the agency - but she cannot say that for contractual reasons.
Technically speaking, death threats to your live-in lover are a crime.

I thought people who did this sort of thing were prosecuted? On a final note, it was not that out of line, even the usage of the N word, if it came out of Pee Doody’s mouth, would be brushed away.
I was at an intersection in front a a “gear and trim” shop, a sailor was walking towards it in a normal stride, as soon as he passed the door frame, he completely changed his posture, swaying back and forth, and pulled his pants down lower. That is not the first time I have noticed this chameleon like move by black men, and it won’t be the last. Working construction, a black man walked up to me and asked for a cigarette....I did not smoke, he went to a black co worker and said, say bruh, gots a coo man? Just one step away from me, he was a different person.

Yes, the unashamed home wrecker, played it well on the recording ... . Someone screwing around with a married man has NO CHARACTER in my book. Mel was STUPID.

Without CONSENT, I doubt that it could be admitted in court. I doubt Mel KNEW she was recording him. He sounds like he's two sheets to the wind. His speech is slurred.

Well, it depends on WHO it is. If the person is CATHOLIC which btw I am not) or conservative (which I am), then you are FAIR GAME.
OTOH, if you are s LIBERAL, it is understood that you have NO BOUNDARIES. That's the only difference I can determine.
