TUCSON - The director of the New Mexico chapter of The League of United Latin American Citizens, LULAC, claims the new illegal immigration law is causing families to leave Arizona. The national civil rights group opposes SB 1070.
"Arizona looks like an incredible moron right now, with their draconian laws, sheriff Arpaio, I think New Mexico, the entire country, is looking at Arizona as probably one of the most stupidest states in the country right now," Ralph Arellanes said.
Arellanes also says his organization is helping Arizona families relocate to his state.
"Families are enrolling their children in schools here in Albuquerque, public schools, they're leaving Arizona, specifically because of the SB 1070 law, fear of racial profiling," Arellanes said.
Both the Tucson Unified School District and Albuquerque Public Schools do not have enrollment numbers for this coming school year. Neither could not confirm nor deny claims that SB 1070 is causing families to pull out of Arizona public schools.
Albuquerque realtor Tracy Venturi says she has had clients from Arizona say the law was a factor when they decided to move to New Mexico.

Well, New Mexico, now you get to see your coffers even further depleted with the schooling and other types of support of all these new “former Arizonians.” And, Arizona, maybe things will improve in your financial situation with fewer illegals to have to support.
Why would “Arizonans” flee to New Mexico? Only illegals would have a reason to flee. And I wonder what New Mexicans think about efforts to recruit illegals to their state, with its nice 8 percent unemployment rate.
