My cousin who now lives in Panama owned a sizeable amount of property about 10 minutes from the airport in Ft. Myers. His neighbor decided to dig some ponds behind his house and had to rid the property of a bunch of gators...........
So lets assume you live where this person did, what's the general attitude towards these alligators? If they decided to start shooting these things with say a .22 at close range, would the neighbors report them?
Problem: “had to rid the property of a bunch of gators...........”
Solution: Tell Bubba they are good to eat with BBQ sauce, they are out of season.
Problem solved.
Have a case of long neck Bud and you will be invited to the BBQ.

It was Hilton Head Island. So, I'm guessing that they would say something. I usually keep my eyes pealed for gators, but this one was so close to a house, and a bit of a ways from the closest canal, it didn't even cross my mind that it might be an "alligator area".
After we were done, I mentioned it to the guys in the pro-shop. They said that usually when the alligator gets to the 5-foot range, they'll "remove" them. The one I saw seemed a whole lot bigger than that, so maybe he's operating on borrowed time.
After the ricochets hit their houses...
