PROVO — The former BYU student accused of attacking a woman with a stun gun pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lessened degree of aggravated assault.

Stetson Geo Hallam, 20, had been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, following an April 6 incident that he claimed was an April Fool's joke, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

Charges say Hallam, the victim's home teacher in their LDS Church ward, pressured the 19-year-old woman to meet him so he could "give her a gift."

The woman told police Hallam waited outside her Provo apartment for her to return, then asked her to go to a basement laundry room as part of a scavenger hunt.

Once in the room, Hallam attacked her with a Taser-like weapon, pinned her to the ground and tried to handcuff her, the affidavit states. Despite the electric shock, the woman began screaming and fighting back, and at one point bit Hallam's finger, according to court documents. She later told police she thought Hallam was trying to rape her.

After being bitten, Hallam released the woman, apologized, and said it was just an April Fool's joke, the affidavit states. Police found burn marks on the woman's arm from the weapon and a bite mark on Hallam's hand.

Hallam pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 9 and faces up to 15 years in prison.

BS.
Gutless prosecutors to offer or accept a plea. This is not the last we have heard about this violent offender.

Why are young woman “taught, counseled” by young men? Shouldn't it be young women teaching counseling” young women?

Perhaps Obama will claim his presidential run was an April Fools joke when it’s determined he wasn’t eligible to run.

How does one become a “BYU home teacher”? Isn’t a “home teacher” by definition NOT a faculty member of BYU?

He’s certainly not one of the ‘good guys’. He did wrong and should be punished for his ill deeds, just like people of other religions should.

I find it funny that whenever a Mormon farts you’re the first one to run over and smell it. There’s a name for that psychological problem, just can’t think of it right now.

Moral of the story:

FIGHT BACK. LEAVE A MARK.

If the perp has ANY self-control/brains whatsoever, he might very well back off.

(Nothing wrong with shooting and all that stuff either, but that is not always possible.)

All positions in the Mormon church are via a so-called "calling." Harry Reid is an Lds "home teacher" in the D.C. area. (Isn't it "great" to know that the Mormon god has "called" Harry Reid to such a "calling" through his "prophet" and those administering the "ONLY true church" on the face of the earth?)

May have been from the byu “ward”

For those that are not conversant with mormon system, a home teacher is assigned by the local “priesthood” holders in the ward to go to various homes to “teach” to members.

They refer to works like “home teaching” as “callings”

from lds.org

“Home teaching is the responsibility of all Melchizedek Priesthood holders and of those who are teachers and priests in the Aaronic Priesthood. As part of their responsibility to watch over the members of the Church, home teachers visit their assigned families at least once each month to teach and strengthen them. Home teachers establish a relationship of trust with these families so that the families can call upon them in times of need.”

Only you would reduce aggravated assault, an obvious ploy to commit kidnapping, probable rape, (and who knows how he planned to cover this all up) to the status of a natural body function. You're pathetic.

Perhaps as "penance" for such an assenine, careless remark, you should "sentence yourself" to go talk to dozens of rape and kidnapping victims and learn what they went through.

But I guess anything goes when you're in the Mormon PR biz.

Um....first of all, April Fools is the 1st not the 6th (several days diff there), secondly I saw this type of behavior at BYU by a couple of guys (although no stun guns), and finally...did anyone else notice that this event took place on the anniv of the founding of the LDS church?

What the person did is evil and criminal and he should be punished to the full extent of the law.

The point is Colofornian is that you wouldn’t have posted it if something similar was done by a member of another church but since he was a Mormon Church it fit your agenda of trying to post anything that would make the Mormon Church look bad.

FR would be a very boring place if it was used by everyone who had an agenda against any specific religion.

He’s certainly not one of the ‘good guys’. He did wrong and should be punished for his ill deeds, just like people of other religions should.

What "religious" people are you referencing here? I'm not saying a "religious" tag innoculates people from committing crimes...including these kinds of crimes...but how many men with a religious titled "calling" are on the loose with tasers, handcuffs, and ready-made containers that he was trying to lure her and stuff her in?

Furthermore, the contrast involved here is heavier. How many "people of other religions" (your reference) bill themselves as "supermen?"

I mean, all we'd need is for a guy like this to be a crowd like the one Lds "prophet" Spencer W. Kimball spoke to in the 70s -- and we'd hear Hallum referenced by a Mormon "prophet" as one of the "brethren": "Brethren, 225,000 of you are here tonight. I suppose that 225,000 of you may become gods" (from The Ensign, November 1975 republished in 1980)

Men sinning and committing these type of crimes, no matter what "religious tag" they wear? (Yeah, I understand that). But the fall seems to be a lot greater when you have so-called "gods-in-embryo" who were previously confirmed by a person supposedly guided directly by the Mormon god.

IOW, even from a Mormon perspective, the greater the fall, the greater the tragedy. And instead of being "tragedy-struck," you immediately kick it in to "other religions" gear.

Lame response full of misquotes. You are drowning in your hatred of Mormons.

So, by reading your disjointed post, you are basically saying that this criminal’s motive was that he was directed by the mormon god to do it, and somehow there was great tragedy involved, and something about 225,000 men, plus there are gods-in-embryo involved as well...interesting view...magritte

Hey, it's real simple: Every "reporter" has a "beat"...and they don't cover other "beats" unless assigned.

The pro-aborts have long used the tactic you just used: They use to say (& may still do) that if you don't adopt every orphan from Africa (or wherever), well then 'who are you' to speak up for pro-life concerns?

IOW, the goal is simply to paralyze pro-lifers into saying and doing nothing unless they've become a Mother Teresa clone.

The parallel here is that you've basically thrown down a gauntlet, claiming that unless I post every single "religious"-based perp article, that I likewise need to cower in silence and not speak out against such acts of injustice. Is your goal simply to paralyze the airing of truth and acts of injustice?

And if you're going to address "agenda," what's your "agenda" in that your very first post of this thread is not to condemn the perp, or side with the victim, but to attack the person who posted it. Why are you (indirectly at least) acting as an advocate for Hallam on this thread?

It does get a bit tiring seeing colofornian piggy-backing on the FR as his personal blog to carry out his psychotic hate campaign. JR should charge him for the bandwidth.
