PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a Jackson County deputy has been suspended without pay after accidentally discharging a gun through a window in Sheriff Mike Byrd's office.

Byrd tells The Mississippi Press that the bullet traveled through the window and was recovered in the courtyard between the old and new courthouse buildings. No one was injured in the incident that occurred Friday afternoon.

Sounds like an Andy Griffith show plot: Barney mishandles his firearm, nearly kills Aunt Bea.

There musta been a good reflection in that window so he could practice his quick draw.

I’ve owned a glock for 10 years, it has never happened to me. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong.

Only because most cops cary glocks. Striker fired guns are inherantly safer than traditional guns with hammers.

I own a Glock as well. It has never “accidentally” discharged but a Glock is very intolerant of sloppy handling ie: re-holstering with a finger on the trigger, fast draw practice with a round chambered etc. My bet is on the human factor for the NEGLIGENT discharge.

I can carry my S&W M-59 with the hammer down and the double action pull isn’t at all prone to accidental discharge.

hmmm, that must be why I don’t have this problem. I learned something new today :)

And if a “civilian” had done the same thing, his @ss would be in jail and he’d be charged with 17 different charges from illegal discharge of a weapon to reckless endangerment, with no bail, if he was lucky enough not to be shot by all the cops knee jerk responding to the discharge.

Tell me again why cops shouldn’t be held to a higher standard than the average “civilian” they’re supposed to be “protecting and serving” and be summarily dismissed and charged when they do something like this? Don’t they claim to have all the higher training, knowledge and practice that the “civilians” haven’t had?

Neither are glock pistols. None have ever fired unles their triggers were pulled.
