Spinal Tap is one of my favorites, but I think A Mighty Wind pulls it off just as well and, in some ways, better.

There aren’t as many “cold sores” in “Wind” but the lead female in the New Main Street Singers has an interesting past. ;)

And the color witches are as funny as “it goes to 11”.

So far the movie is getting pretty good reviews.

And I will always at least give Beck a listen.

Eh. Fake bands aren't that hard to pull off.

Wild In The Streets
Bedazzled (the Dudley Moore-Peter Cook original)
Ladies & Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains

And none of them need to take cast off songs by a full label band and pretend they were by some film band.

Depends on your point of reference I guess.

Sure it may be difficult to make a credible "indie-scenester" band but then I don't accept that as rock anymore than I did the excesses of the 1970s and 1980s pop music. (see Tapedheads' "Blender Children" featuring Stiv Bators on lead vocal playing a hair metal video band).

I played drums in rock bands from 1974-well I still play sometimes. I have known dozens if not hundreds of guys like this.

Speaking of music, I ran across this recently and it made me laugh.

Spinal Tap is one of the funniest movies in the world. It would be funny even if they had left out the foil-wrapped cucumber part. And they were actually pretty good as musicians.

I haven’t seen A Mighty Wind. It’s now on my Netflix queue...

One of my favorite movies about a band is “The Commitments.”

If you haven’t seen it, it is certainly worth the time. It is about a band in Ireland singing Black Soul style and it is a hoot.

Maybe I'm silly, but I thought that Tom Hanks did a good job putting the band together in That Thing You Do.

I like the guy that’s at the end of the audition line. “I thought it was a line for drugs.”

Most people refuse to accept that THIS TOO is a fake band:

"Paul always claimed it was very liberating to pretend to be someone else..."

“Terry and I worship an unconventional deity. The power of another dimension. Now you are not going to read about this dimension in a book or a magazine because it exists nowhere... but in my own mind. Through our ceremonies and rituals we have witnessed the awesome and vibratory power... of color.”

Rock band movie suggestion: “Still Crazy”

A ‘70’s band, ‘Strange Fruit’ reforms 25 years after their ugly breakup. The old problems that caused the breakup originally quickly resurface. It’s very well done with original music by Mick Jones(Foreigner).
