My boss is a woman. Have never worked for such a nice company in terms of a workplace environment. However she is moody as hell and can be nasty for no reason that can be explained

I prefer a real stern female boss that isn't afraid to smack me around when I do wrong

Nonsense.
My current sup is the best boss I’ve ever had, and she’s a woman.
Good boss, bad boss, it doesn’t have anything to do with sex, it has to do with disposition and if their style is a fit with you or not.
Some folks like a lot of collaboration and direction, other folks, like me, enjoy being left alone.

I agree with gooseminolee;”I agree with the article about women tend to be backstabbers. Men seem to confront a problem head on and dont play the passive-aggressive game.”
In an unknown situation, I would choose a male boss-you don’t usually deal with jealousy and backstabbing.

This male has worked for good female managers.
The bad women bosses seem to be trying to com-
sensate for perceived inadequacies by acting
like hard asses when they don’t need to.

I haven’t seen a difference that could be attributed to gender.

Where I work at we have a butch lesbian who is manager of the facility. I feel sorry for the men that work for her. She does a lot of underhanded things. A problem with lesbian bosses is that too many of them can't stand men or working closely with men, which leads to trying to drive out the men to have a women-only group.

Its also been my experience that women have a harder time working for women than men.Not always true. Still depends on the person. Worse bosses I've had were men with Naploleon complexes and women with burning desires to BE the bosses.

That would be NAPOLEON, dummie.

Most men don’t think or speak in layers.
A guy speaks a subject-verb sentence and that is exactly what he means.
A woman can speak that very same sentence and tell you 4 other things that she wants you to know in between the words.

Women tend to personalize everything in the workplace. Especially criticism [from those I observed who worked for me].

My current boss and previous boss are both women and my experiences have been different with both. My previous boss was a competent, straight-shooting, no-nonsense person. She told you what to do without fluff. Had a question, there was never any concern with asking it, she would welcome me into her office and answer it to the best of her ability or get an answer from someone else and get back with me really fast. Now, my current boss, she doesn't want to talk with anyone. She's never around, never returns emails, doesn't want to hear concerns or issues or answer questions, she makes her low-level cronies do it. She just prefers to lock herself up in her huge private office all day long.
The moral at least for me, like what a previous poster said, is that you have good bosses and bad bosses and you'll get a little of both during your career. I don't think having an extra X chromosome instead of a Y chromosome makes you a better or worse boss.

That is my experience. Men do OK working for women, but women working for women can be an issue.

It’s been my experience that women don’t have some sort of superior inner life because of their experiences. I’ve worked for back stabbing unsympathetic men and women.

Yep...my experience too...men will straight shoot more often than not...woman get to touchy feely about things....and if you offer an opinion they see it as not respecting their position...you learn not to offer one. They are just too sensitive all around.

I’ve had several bosses both men and women. The man boss I had was absolutely awesome. Kind, considerate, happy, nice, friendly, helpful and human. The female boss I had was a wonderful mentor. She was patient, kind, considerate, helpful, human and caring. Both those bosses were as well. After them...other bosses? Not so much. So, I do not think it is about man or woman. I think a person has character and values and kindness whether they are bosses or man and woman. Being good comes from within.

Two-thirds of women said they preferred a male boss I've probably seen about half a dozen studies (or more) with the same result. Never seen one where females expressed a preference for a boss of their own sex.
