MILWAUKEE (AP) -- For students entering college this fall, e-mail is too slow, phones have never had cords and the computers they played with as kids are now in museums.

The Class of 2014 thinks of Clint Eastwood more as a sensitive director than as Dirty Harry urging punks to "go ahead, make my day." Few incoming freshmen know how to write in cursive or have ever worn a wristwatch....

Better put me out to pasture since I wear suspenders and carry a 1926 Elgin pocket watch. Don’t have a cell phone either.

Now I bet the class of ‘14 has no clue what a pager is either!

Niiiice! Isn't it odd that they continue to put watch pockets in dungarees?

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have now been around for 26 years (they date back to 1984).

True, but this year's entering college freshman were less than two years old when the Michelangelo virus hit. Trust me the kids had no clue. But they were paying attention to TMNT.

It's bad enough how texting has all but destroyed proper spelling in general, but you've got to be kidding me

I blame the media:

3. See America slip to 2nd place economically to China.

You’re right on everything except this one. China is headed for a crash.

A going away present when I joined the Air Force. Unfortunately, being young and foolish, I accidentally put a pool stick through it

We’re back to pocket watches: I thought that was what the time display on my cellphone was for?

Few incoming freshmen know how to write in cursive or have ever worn a wristwatch....

Fewer still will ever understand how the technology they rely on works, and even fewer will be able to take part in extending that technology. Sad but true - most of the engineering graduates I interview these days are foreign students, and some percentage of them will eventually take their expertise and education back to their home countries.

As for wristwatches, no one has "needed" one since mobile phones became common. But no mobile phone will ever look this beautiful:

And yet Dick Tracy had a wristphone.

I remember our “Scavenger Hunt” during my freshman year back in the dark ages of the 1970s. Each dorm floor was split into two groups (small college, maybe 20 teams total) and given a list of things to find and questions about the college to answer.

Winning team got 1 case of beer. 2nd place got 2 cases. 3rd place got 3 cases. As I recall, our side of the floor got 2nd place, the other side got 1st place. Pooled the winnings and had a fun time.

Ah, the days when 18 year olds could drink and there were actually winners and losers!

Here some stuff the Class of 2014 will experience.
1. Owe $300,000 as their share of National Debt.
2. Experience long term unemployment.
3. See America slip to 2nd place economically to China.
4. Have a lower standard of living compare to their parents.
5. Depend on the Government for livelihood and wellbeing.
6. Never be able to own a house.

And....
7. Watch their parents die in pain and too early due to death panels
8. Watch their children suffer due to either unavailable or exorbitantly high cost medical care
9. Watch as Spanish becomes the principle language of the US
10. Enjoy the spectacle of "same sex" marriages and couples prancing around the neighborhood.
11. Suffer the effects of the repeal of the Second Ammendment to the Constitution
12. Put up with the teaching of sex (to include homosexuality) to pre-schoolers and elementary school kids

And so it goes.....

Huh? Wearing a wristwatch is “metrosexual”? Maybe some of us just want an easy way to keep track of the time.
