Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the talk show host who recently apologized for saying the N-word 11 times to a caller on the air, said Tuesday she plans to give up her radio show when her contract is up at the end of this year.
The conservative advice maven made the announcement on CNN's "Larry King Live," saying she wants to "regain her First Amendment rights."
Schlessinger said she's not retiring or quitting. Instead, she said, she feels stronger and freer to say what she believes needs to be said.
"I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry -- some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and sponsors," she said.
Schlessinger apologized last week for saying the N-word several times in an on-air conversation with a caller whom she accused of being hypersensitive to racism. She said on her website that she was wrong in using the word for what she said was an attempt to make a philosophical point.

This whole thing is idiotic. She was only using the taboo N word in a conversation about language, not directing it at or referring it to anyone. Totally ridiculous.
I don’t understand why so many people here bash her.
Ok she isn’t perfect, kind of abrasive and I don’t like to listen to that type of show but she helped a lot of people and was one of the very few who went against the tide of PC and liberalism.
She was one of the few who preached conservative values like taking responsibility for your actions, no sex outside of marriage, women staying home to raise childen if possible, she often stuck up for men, fatherhood etc.
How many others do that on a national forum?

I caught part of the Larry Nearly Alive King thing this am. Nearly alive made some comment about blacks using it to KID each other being OK?... or some thing vaguely like that.
Well I’ve got news for all you uninformed... having been raised in a county that’s bout forty percent black and having lived in a county that’s close to eight percent black... I am a black expert. AND... the vast majority of the time when they use the term... they... my friends... ARE NOT using it in jest. Period... end of story.

In the context she used the word she had a point. If people with black skin are offended by the word then they should stop using it.
What freedom of speech is Laura talking about? Only minorities have freedom of speech.
Finally that useless dolt is leaving. Not soon enough. What a waste of time she was right before Art Bell at 2am. Blargh. She was right up there in quality with that stupid sex midget Ruthie and 20-year-old reprints of Dear Abby.
I would say she is very abrasive and she makes sweeping statements and commands having learned 25 seconds of information about the caller's situation. Sure she has some conservative stances but she trashes all over the place.
Still I'll say for the counselor/shrink type of biz she is less nutty than most.
Yeah, its a low blow and she shouldn’t leave over it, but she is still a total waste of time, no better than Oprah or Jerry Springer. What she said is fine, its just that I can’t stand any of those self-help dorks.
I haven’t caught her show in years, but there were several times when I would cringe at how rude she could be.
