Amazon review of 1959 book by Merrill Root. Reveals how totalitarian enemies try to control what is taught in public schools. ///START REVIEW///
The Illusion of Choice. Or: How Commies Win and We Lose ///
One big question circa 1955 was why so many American POWs in the Korean War had surrendered to Communist interrogation techniques?
Why had these young soldiers become what the Communists themselves called "progressives"--that is, men who were Communist sympathizers or collaborators--or both--during their time in captivity?
The author's starting point is that these young Americans knew little that was positive about their country, for the unexpectedly simple reason that American public schools didn't teach history from a patriotic, pro-American perspective. On the contrary, these schools used books that sneered at our traditions and successes.
Root examines 11 history books that dominated the landscape during the 1950s. Note that high number: 11. Why were so many books published for the same narrow market? This question becomes even more intriguing when one realizes that these history books are virtually identical!
Written by American history professors, these books appear to be billet-doux to Moscow. (Only one book doesn't completely conform -- "History of a Free People" by Bragdon and McCutchen. This was the last-published of these books, in 1954, and appears to have resulted because there were complaints that the first ten "were committed to collectivism.")
These history books together constitute a vast propaganda campaign, with the goal of making the US and capitalism appear evil. So that Russia's ruthless dictatorship might seem preferable. Root does an excellent job of tracking these books on the fly, showing, for example, how they depict Washington, Jefferson, Wilson, FDR; how they demean business executives and private property; how they celebrate all the ideas celebrated in Russia. /// CONCLUDES BELOW

Here are a few examples. Each of these books contain about 25 pages on the Civil War, 35 on World War I, and 50 on the New Deal. For the Communists, our New Deal was the one good thing that happened here.
It's almost humorous how our cultural elite relentlessly favored only those authors and artists that made America look bad, gloomy, broken.
This bias helped "Tobacco Road" became a bestseller around 1933. Then one of these textbooks could say: "Erskine Caldwell, in Tobacco Road, described life in the South. His characters lived on a level considerably lower, morally and intellectually, than blooded hogs." And that, you see, is Life In The South. (Doesn't the single phrase "considerably lower" show us that this so-called historian had completely lost it?)
One major lie spread throughout these texts is that the Bolsheviks staged a revolution in Russia against the czar. In fact, Kerensky staged that revolution -- a true popular rebellion against the old aristocracy. Six months later, Lenin's Bolsheviks, through trickery and lies, staged a COUP against this Socialist government and subverted it. The Bolsheviks did not even remotely represent the wishes of the people but it was these fanatics who took over the country; and it was these master subversives that were soon undermining every country and culture in the world. And thus, I would venture, we have these warped history books.
One astonishing parallel I noticed is with Reform Math. This phrase refers to at least a dozen separate math programs now common in our public schools. Virtually all of them are the same in being confusing and inferior. Few parents who have a choice use these books.
What you have in both the 11 history books and 12 math programs is this clever evil: an illusion of choice. Think of the planning, the coordination, the relentless dishonesty required to create a dozen almost identical things while pretending that they are not the same and not related. Only Commies could pull off stuff like this. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Gloria Steinhem admits now that CIA funded Ms. Magazine. Why? Elites have all the influence in CIA. Object being get women out of the house, so now you can own, control and tax twice as much labor. Second, let the STATE teachers educate/indoctrinate the kids. Added bonus of family breakdown thrown in.
Are you going to believe something that loony old bat "admits"?
Her reason for making it up?
Loony people say loony things.
Here is some info:

Ofcourse sources should be questioned. But Steinhem was attacked by other leftist groups for being a CIA-money-honey. She has admitted she was aware agency was funding those organizations.
Perhaps CIA intention was to recruit leftists that can SPY on Communits. However, the ELITES that operate in the background, they always have their sights set on much bigger goals. Support for Womens’ lib had its purpose, that goes beyond spying on Communists.
So there is a bit more to the story than just being loony.
I’m sorry FRiend, but I can’t make any sense out of what you are saying.
Women’s LIB was supported and funded by Elites via CIA is my assertion and belief.
I was not alive in 60s. But I have seen how the Gay movement has come to power, and how it started with Clinton putting them in Military and huge backlash that followed. Then the bank-owned-elite media took over and brainwashed everyone till the point now polls (fudged and real) are tipping in favor of gay marriage.
Way too much co-ordination and systematic effort and so I believe power forces are behind it and not just people achieving enlightenment in span of 20 years.
Thus I am sure that Women’s LIB and family breakdown was co-ordinated effort as well. Steinhem’s admission helps, but there is LOT more evidence out there that suggests, that most of the things that seem to happen to our Nations seems to be CONTROLLED and INTENTIONAL.
A cougar pick-up-line to impress a dolt?
