No one is saying you have to do anything unsafe. I presume if you wanted to exit, you would find a way to move over to the right lane.
So have some courtesy and move over for a minute, then move back.
(2) Your 85 mph is way over the speed limit and unnecessary.
Not your job to say what is unnecessary. Your job is to operate your car in a safe manner. Creating your own roving roadblock of aggravated drivers behind you is not safe.
If you are going 76 in the left lane and the cars in the right lane are going under 70, as the situation you described, then you wont be cutting anyone off. If you are going raster than someone and you get in front of them, they are not going to run into you.
And the left lane on a highway is always for passing. If you are not passing, you should get over. Doesnt matter if you feel inconvienced, it is the rule. Most highways even have signs that state that. What you are saying is that it is ok for you to inconvience somene else as long as no one inconviences you.
You are merely creating your own scenarios, you need to move out of the passing lane and let traffic flow, if you are breezing along at 75, then there are always places in the right lane to move to.
Very little is more hazardous than having an anal weirdo locking up the passing lane and creating chaos, inflaming tempers, and causing people to figure out ways to get around him and his one man "I'm King of the World" senior citizen drive.
In Germany, a country which has far fewer accidents per 100,000 than the USA, the speed is unlimited for large parts of their autobahn. No matter how fast you are going you must get over when a car comes up behind you in the left lane, if you are doing 190 and a car comes up behind you, you had better move over or risk losing your license. I feel it should be the same way here.
If the move over law was enforced we would have fewer accidents and holier than thou people who think everyone should drive at their speed would either get the F*** out of the way or they would lose their license.
but it does mean that I get to run idiots such as yourself off the road. It gives me such a thrill to see the back end of your car poking out of the ditch in my rearview mirror.
Obviously, your tailgaters have been far too nice to you as you have yet to learn your lesson.
