Poor Mr Wolk may have posted it in good faith, unaware.

It just looks too “perfect” to me.

If it is real, I hope the camera observer at least had the decency to rescue the cat.

The Portuguese Podengo is a she and trust me, Gypsy’s not gonna let anybody tape her to anything.

[plus, her Dobermann “son” is very protective of her]...:))

Absolutely. The cat recognized a friend. That is so obvious.

She is a psycho for sure.

If that were a rat she did it to, how would you feel?

Let me give you an alternative explanation. The cat goes into the bin. Finds nothing after searching for the fish it knows to be in there (she can smell the fish).

So, she climbs out and goes about her business. Eventually someone tosses something in so she opens the lid herself (3 inches ought to do it) and slips in. Does whatever she wants. Falls asleep. Wakes up. Dumps and starts mewewing. The owner finally notices the cat is missing ~

No, the cat wasn't in there 15 hours ~ more like 15 minutes ~ in the meantime she was out and about doing cat stuff!

The irony is that the UK has some of the most strict and merciless anti-cruelty laws on earth.

John Cleese [of Monty Python] jokingly once said that the laws were so strict that one day a year, they have a “Torment A Gerbil Day” just so that the Brits can blow off some steam.

United Kingdom

In the United Kingdom, cruelty to animals is a criminal offence for which one may be jailed for up to 51 weeks and may be fined up to £20,000.[24]

On August 18, 1911, the House of Commons introduced the Protection of Animals Act 1911 (c.27) following lobbying by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). The maximum punishment was 6 months of “hard labour” with a fine of 25 pounds.[25]

If it’s real, she’s screwed.
Brits worship their “moggies”.

It’s a real video. Here is the story.

As TheOldLady said, Onevike is ailing. He is neither a blog pimp, nor is his site straining to infect anyone’s pc.

The site is owned by his hometown newspaper, the Enterprise Record. If you know who Anthony Watts is you will know the site is reputable. Anthony has a site with the same paper. They live in the same town and I do believe OV (Chuck Wolk) and Watt are even friends. Rush talks about Anthony Watts all the time when he speaks of Global warming. Watts up with that is a big anti global warming guy who rush uses for information.

As for the video of the cat, it is real. Here is the story from AP about the lady and the cat. Salamander, quit trying to find evil where it does not exist. OV has been around FR for 12 years, I don’t think he is as stupid or clueless as you make him to look.

LONDON — The gray-haired woman gently pets the cat, occasionally glancing furtively at a garbage bin. Then she strikes, casually grabbing it by the scruff, tossing it in, popping the lid closed, and quickly strolling away.

The surveillance video posted online by Lola the cat’s owners takes only seconds, but it has outraged thousands of viewers around the world, some of whom posted angry messages pledging retribution. Now, police say they’ve identified the woman and posted guards outside her house in central England.

Investigators at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which prosecutes cruelty cases, said Tuesday that the gray striped cat was trapped for 15 hours before being rescued on Sunday morning by her owners, who told a British newspaper they heard Lola’s muffled cries from inside the bin. The distressed cat was unharmed.

The society said it planned to interview the woman involved after it confirmed her identity, but declined to say whether she had been identified by a viewer of the clip online.

Police in the city of Coventry urged local residents to show restraint.

“Coventry Police are supporting the society’s investigation and would urge the public to leave the matter to be dealt with in the appropriate manner by the authorities,” the West Midlands police department said in a statement.

Lola’s owner Stephanie Mann said she and husband Darryl couldn’t find Lola on Sunday morning but followed the sound of her meows.

“We thought she might be trapped under the car because she sounded like she was hurt, so we followed her cries and eventually found her in the bin,” she told the Coventry Telegraph newspaper.

The couple had previously installed a personal surveillance camera outside their home following a spate of thefts in the area.

Mann said they checked the video tape expecting to discover local youths, or a drunk, had thrown Lola into the bin late on Saturday evening, but were shocked to discover the culprit was a respectable looking woman.

“I was absolutely heartbroken to see how someone could just be so cruel,” she told the newspaper. “I don’t know what went through her head but it was just disgusting to watch and it broke my 8-year-old daughter’s heart.”

Mann later posted the clip online, where it has attracted tens of thousands of views.

Coventry police department said a small number of community support officers — wardens who assist the police but have no powers of arrest — had been stationed near the woman’s home after a crowd gathered outside.

Hah! I knew you were bluffing.

I keep dreaming (literally) of having a dog, but we just don’t have the yard for it.

Thank you for the update. It’s great that the cat is all right. I kid about it, but I hope that no one does anything untoward to the nutbag who did that to Lola. My wish for her to be fined and sentenced to community service still stands.

Thanks about the info about OV’s blog site. Salamander has a program that flags the trackers, beacons, adware, and malware from the sites she visits, and her software did show “25 beacons, trackers, and adware” at NorCal.

I’m praying for OV’s swift recovery. I have a similar problem, but it’s only in one finger and my collarbone, so it isn’t so debilitating, but it is very painful at times.

Don't let this little body and sweet face fool ya.

She's like a freaking Velociraptor and the Dobe is scared snotless of her wrath.

[she zips in under him at light speed and tries to hamstring him if he gets too uppity]..LOL

In spite of her size, *she* is the top dog in the pack.

I appreciate the heads up about the site, but unless you are going to give up surfing the net, you will be at risk from such things.

But then please point me to a Newspaper website that does not have such added extras that we need to be prepared for. Which we should all have spy ware and virus software that basically reduces all those nuisance and potentially crippling bugs powerless.

I suggest that if adaware, beacons, and malware worry you that much, then it's time to upgrade your virus protectors, or quit reading any of a thousand articles posted to FR everyday.

As I said, point to me one Newspaper that has linked stories to FR that does not have such potentially hazardous encrypted software? Believe me, if you read anything from the major MSM newspapers, they ALL HAVE that much and more.

Sorry to be such a party pooper as to your worry, but I have never ever recieved and adaware, or any other mendacious virus of any sort from anywhere on the WEB. That is because I use protection. It is our friend, and it works every time it's tried. But unlike sex, I will use protection for the web, rather than practice abstinence.

I am feeling better, but it will soon pass unfortunately, it is the nature of my current troubles.

Tom Hawks called me about your worry and about the story behind the video. I updated the blog to reflect the AP report.

As for the virus’s I had to respond to Salamander.

I have web protection too, but it doesn’t report on every site as Salamander’s does. I had it for a while, but it takes a lot of time to deal with each new site, and as you say, there are a lot of new sites when one is following links here.

OV, I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling better and look forward to your pings. I don’t always reply but usually take a gander. God bless you.

A little touchy, aren’t you?

I was not condemening you and I have the best anti-everything software available.

I may not “get” anything while surfing but it does politely let me know what I *could* have gotten.

Stop being so defensive.

I have no idea where that video came from but it could have tons of stuff embedded in it that you were not aware of.

If your blog is embedded with all that stuff by your own choice, I have the right to thwart it being deposited on my computers and the duty to alert others who may not be running as tight a ship as I am.

Having said that, I do hope and pray that your health problems get resolved.

I *never* said “virus”....not once, *anywhere* in my post.

Malware/spyware/adware/beacons/trackers and nasty cookies, yes.

Tom should learn the distinction.

Viruses, trojans and keyloggers aren’t the only “bad things” on the web.

I do read her sonnets by Elizabeth Barrett Browning...LOL

[actually, she’s fluent in hillbilly by now so we have no communication issues]

You could get a small dog and a doggy litter box.

Seriously.

If it weren’t for the huge canid monsters stalking my house, I’d have a little Chihuahua.
