Such a small % of African-American farmers yet there seemed so many that were part of the lawsuit against the Department of Agriculture.

There are some occupations that have very few women working in them. (There is a definate difference between men and women)

There are very few women engineers, programmers and electronic techs. That is in a way odd, most men are color blind to some degree and electronics techs need to be able to use color to read resistor coding. When it comes to dexterity and perception of things like color and design women have the edge. Men have the edge where physical strength, stamina and endurance are concerned.

There are always exceptions.

Why is this important? Men and women are not the same physically or mentally. Some ethnic groups have advantages and disadvantages along the same lines.

Why? I am not sure.

“A millwright is a craftsman or tradesman engaged with the construction and maintenance of machinery.

“Early millwrights were specialist carpenters who erected machines used in agriculture, food processing and processing lumber and paper. In the early part of the Industrial Revolution, their skills were pressed into service building the earliest powered textile mills.

“Modern millwrights work with steel and other materials in addition to wood and must often combine the skills of several skilled trades in order to successfully fabricate industrial machinery or to assemble machines from pre-fabricated parts. The modern millwright must also be able to read blueprints and other schematics to aid him in the construction of complex systems. Millwrights are frequently unionized, although experienced millwrights often set themselves up as independent contractors.

I was thinking the survey's purpose is more to stir up Democrat votes by continuing to stir the pot of racism. If the survey listed professional athletes, it wouldn't generate much angst.

I suppose these aren’t large enough categories to make the cut, but any job requiring the ability to endure heat has a much higher percentage. The employees of a local brick manufacturer who work with the kilns are overwhelmingly black, and it’s not a low-paying job. Roofer used to be, now it’s largely hispanic immigrant.

I am an artist and I don’t remember ever having a black person in any of my classes or workshops. Interesting I never noticed that. They are wrong about the lack of black farmers/ranchers. Texas has lots of black cowboys and farmers. Maybe they are employees and not land owners but there are lots of them particularly along the Gulf Coast.

That surprises me. I guess many of the faces I remember are sports reporters.

Here in Baltimore-Washington there are at least 33% newscasters or more -- same is true with most major Southeastern cities -- but perhaps the survey is making a distinction between talking heads and investigative reporters.

Speaking of Asian minorities, why have they as a group been so successful in America?

For example, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese boat people have come to this country. They literally were running for their lives after the fall of South Vietnam to communism. They escaped with only the clothes on their backs, and came to America and prospered. Anecdotal evidence is that many of their children have become college graduates, and built businesses, and prospered here in America.

I guess I always wonder how groups such as Vietnamese have survived and prospered, when they overcame great hardship to get here and survive. And they have done so well compared to groups such as African-Americans, who today are still as a group among the lower rungs of society.

While we can debate the legacy of slavery and all of those related issues, today’s African-Americans did not experience some of the handicaps which affected recent Asian immigrants. Yet these Asian immigrants have not been held back from advancing in our society.

I taught graphic arts in a northeastern college in the 80s. I had about 3 black students out of 30. I advised one of them to head for DC after graduation. She would be in mid-career now if she stuck with it.

Amazing about 9% in MLB. When I was growing up in the '70s it had to be at least 35-40%. Many teams had all black outfields through the '80s.

Hockey is understandable. Very expensive to play, from gear to ice time. Crazy hours at the rinks require parental involvement that you just won't see from some segments of society. 5 AM practices, travel teams, it's very demanding for the whole family.

Color coding is no longer used. Modern SMT components are not color coded. They are either not marked at all, or marked with a text. Here is an example that shows both approaches.

Unexpected racism.”

Want to see the MSM alter its position on affirmative action? Just require them to preferentially hire until the percentages of minorities is equivalent to the general population. Tell the next Katie Couric that she can't have the job because she doesn't fit the required profile.

Also, reverse racism? I’ve never seen a broadcast news team without one in four being black. 2% of the job pool are black, yet 25%+ of those getting the plum jobs are black? Apparently, you can’t be black and a journalist and end up not in front of the camera.

(No wonder MSNBC can’t find any black journalists to put on the air.)
