Safari
CVE-ID: CVE-2010-1805
Available for: Windows 7, Vista, XP SP2 or later
Impact: Opening a file in a directory that is writable by other users may lead to arbitrary code execution
Description: A search path issue exists in Safari. When displaying the location of a downloaded file, Safari launches Windows Explorer without specifying a full path to the executable. Launching Safari by opening a file in a specific directory will include that directory in the search path. Attempting to reveal the location of a downloaded file may execute an application contained in that directory, which may lead to arbitrary code execution. This issue is addressed by using an explicit search path when launching Windows Explorer. This issue does not affect Mac OS X systems. Credit to Simon Raner of ACROS Security for reporting this issue.
WebKit
CVE-ID: CVE-2010-1807
Available for: Mac OS X v10.4.11, Mac OS X Server v10.4.11, Mac OS X v10.5.8, Mac OS X Server v10.5.8, Mac OS X v10.6.2 or later, Mac OS X Server v10.6.2 or later, Windows 7, Vista, XP SP2 or later
Impact: Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
Description: An input validation issue exists in WebKit's handling of floating point data types. Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution. This issue is addressed through improved validation of floating point values. Credit to Luke Wagner of Mozilla for reporting this issue.
WebKit
CVE-ID: CVE-2010-1806

Impact: Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
Description: A use after free issue exists in WebKit's handling of elements with run-in styling. Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution. This issue is addressed through improved handling of object pointers. Almost bought an Ipad over the weekend but a couple of questions came up I hope someone can help with.
Can the Ipad handle PDF’s in an editable format? Is there a method now or coming soon that will handle the transfer of files without using Itunes. So far all I have figured out is that you have to email the files to yourself if you don’t want to use Itunes.
Is it possible to load Internet Explorer on an Ipad or is Safari the only browser available?
Files are easily transferable without using iTunes in several ways. One is the email method... another is by using the cloud with Mobile.me. Another is to simply link to your home computer and keep your files there. One simple system is DropCopy Mobile that will send files between any iDevice and another and any Macintosh computers so long as they are on the same WIFI network.
PDF reading is simple, but editing them is more difficult. However, you can control any Mac or PC computer with your iPad and edit any PDF using your access to the computers. There are also several PDF editor apps for the iPad... some free, some paid. One I am familiar with is PDF Reader Pro Edition ($3.99) (Read a Review of the app at iPad-Applications-Reviews.com).
Internet Explorer is a Windows only program that is not compatible with the iPad. There are several non-Safari browsers available for the iPad, including Opera. However, Safari is 100% ACID III compliant and will, with the exception of not having FLASH content, give you a satisfactory Internet experience. However, no mobile level device with a touch screen is giving a really satisfactory FLASH experience at this time.
Let me know if you get it... my hubby is drooling over them and I am the practical wait and see kinda girl. I got him the Droid X phone instead LOL.. seems like a fair compromise.
A Driod phone is a compromise over an iPad? Ummm.... No!
I love my iPad. It has, for the most part, replaced my laptop for about 85~90% of my mobile computing needs. It’s fast, light, and the 10 hour battery life is wonderful.
I took it with me to the RH Rally on 8/28, and just plugged my Canon DSLR into it after the event and it transferred over all my photos for the day while I was having lunch at a restaurant. Then passed it around the table so everyone could see the pictures. Try and do that with a laptop at a restaurant .
My only regret: I should have waited for the 3G version.
If they would take the hard drive out of this unit, it would be perfect, although with 9.5 hour battery life maybe the hard drive is not as much of a problem.
HP Mini 110 series

A netbook you can take everywhere to stay connected; up to 9.5 hours of battery life (no internal optical drive) Genuine Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3

Weight and size is still a factor. The clam shell design is not a problem for me. I am so rough with equipment I need it. That is one of the things that bothers me about the Ipad. To protect it, you need a case or at least I do.
I think there are less expensive options than the Ipad that will provide what I am looking for - or soon will be.
I have Camino, Firefox, Chrome, Seamonkey running on OS X 10.6.4 and 10.5.8

I was simply going to get an itouch gen 3 to replace my 1st gen one.
My wife talked me into getting the ipad. ( didn’t take much ).
Love it, love it , love it.
It’s so dang handy. Boots up fast, plenty of free to cheap apps to do or see just about anything you want.
Replaces the newspaper in the ‘reading room’. :)
I read Atlas Shrugged on it . Tried to read in bed w/ a Sony Reader last night. I’m switching back to the iPad. Way better in lower light.
I wanted to save some of the passages in A.S. so I’d highlight them and email them to myself. Worked like a champ.
Did I say I love my iPad? The least expensive version. 16 gigs, WiFi.
gogov.. I am not a fan of windows. In fact, it is safe to say I would never willingly purchase a windows product LOL. I bought my Mac to return to school and my windows loving hubby has decided he likes it much better! That’s after he snubbed it! Whenever his pc gets in its thinking mode, i just start up my Mac and nav to the page he was trying to load. Nine times out of ten, I can start up and get there while his is still thinking bout it. Of course, he is not running a dual core processor and I am. Have looked into notebooks, but cant get past the windows os. Glad yours works well for ya and thanks for the info.
I’ve worked with both machines extensively. Both do the job for me but the programs I have been working with for years are all PC based. Not sure if I could switch them over to Mac or not but just don’t see the reason to.
Definately some features on the Mac I like better just not enough to make we switch. I think it is also a matter of what we are familiar with. We are after all creatures of habbit. While it has been a long time since I have had a blue screen on my PC, it just looks more familiar to me than a beachball.
Any IPhone 3G users on this thread? After Apple updated the software in my IPhone, it would no longer get my home email. I spent an hour with tech support the other day and it worked twice then quit receiving the mail again. Does anyone have any suggestions?
that's a strange. You running POP or IMAP? Can you send email?
I’m running POP. I could not send for awhile and then I could. This morning I deleted that account and re-installed it with no success. At lunch I pulled the phone out, it showed nothing in the mailbox and then began downloading emails. It’s working right now.
