Antibiotics mess up your stomach, U.S. study finds

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Even seemingly gentle antibiotics may severely disrupt the balance of microbes living in the gut, with unforeseen health consequences, U.S. researchers reported on Monday.

An intimate study of three women given ciprofloxacin showed the drug suppressed entire populations of beneficial bacteria, and at least one woman took months to recover.

The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, supports the common wisdom that antibiotics can damage the "good" germs living in the body.

It may also support the idea behind the development of so-called probiotic products including yogurt with live cultures of bacteria.

To make it more clear, the good antibiotics do prevent pimples themselves, but only by attacking the bacteria that feed on and multiply in the oil plugs. Said multiplication then leads to the pimples, but no mistake, the excess oil causing the plugs is the root cause.

Keeping my fingers crossed for continued success with the Retin-A...

Wonder how effective that could have been with all the booze drinking that went on.

Dumb kids.

Activa, never take antibiotics without eating some yogurt to get the ‘good’ bacteria back in you.

Don’t tell me that. I’m taking it right now. Cyverticulitis is no fun and it can be life threatening. I never take anti-biotics, but in this case there does not seem to be any other option. I make sure I take it with food.

Gee, no kidding? Really?? /sarc

Last time I was on them I thought I was having a heart attack. Seriously. I went to ER in a panic. I avoid them stringently now. Unless I have an(other) ear infection so bad I'm about to barf, NO ANTIBIOTICS.

Thanks.

Change of diet causes flare ups.

FYI for bowel cleansing (kv gets pseudo blocks due to his cerebral palsy) mix 1/2 c molasses and 1/2 c. warm milk mix.

The sugar in the molasses will pull everything from the bowels and the milk is just serves as the mixing agent.

Obviously this is a last ditch effort to all other home health cures.

I had a two year bout with Rosacea or adult acne. Retin-A made it worse. Everything I tried made it worse, until I found ZNP soap and Acnomel. Cured the Rosacea. Seems there are two things that can zap those acne causing bugs. Zinc and Sulfur. My skin has been really good for three years now.

KV has adult acne and we have luck with grooming care to a point.

I can tell when he is getting ill with infection because the acne will flare up before other signs like fever/O2 sats drop ect..

The only upside to the rare use of anti bio is the acne and oily skin dries up.

He uses topical antibiotics normally what we call the bingo dabber thing.

Hey, I like that idea. I love molasses, especially those Tenn. Sorghum ones. I’ve been eating it by the spoonful.

Hey Global. Try the ZNP soap and Acnomel for adult acne. It sure cured mine. I use the soap to wash my face every day, and I keep the cream on hand in case of a pimple flair up.

Yeah, I’m seriously considering going ahead with the surgery as the surgeon wanted to do. I have to decide soon because after the obamacare kicks in there won’t be any surgery allowed for it.

LOL. I’m sure it might work, but it could be a bit sticky. Personally, I’d rather eat the molasses.

Gonna try that.

Where do we get that soap?

I shave his head weekly (that is where the small pustules form esp with his rubbing his scalp with such force into his WC headrest and pillows) then do the tar soap then HnShoulders and clyndamison topical daily.

Lot of work. He will never get wrinkly with all that hyper oil flow.
