He bet on the Reds every night - to win.

No he didn't. He bet on them sometimes to win, other times he didn't bet on them at all.

Pete's a scumbag, so one can only assume he's the type who would manage differently, depending on whether or not he had money on them that night.

Doesn't matter though. Baseball's been clear about it since 1920. If you gamble on baseball, you are banished from baseball. Forever.
