Ricky Skaggs: A 'Mosaic' Of Modesty, Openness
NPR Public Radio ^ | September 14, 2010 | KEN TUCKER

Posted on 09/16/2010 10:21:27 PM PDT by Liberty Valance

From the opening verses of Mosaic, it's clear that Ricky Skaggs is fine-tuning his music, shifting his sound slightly. Skaggs is singing about his Christian faith in strong yet delicate tones. But the tunes aren't the rigorous bluegrass ones we've come to expect. Instead, he's trying out variations on pop melodies, and he frequently sets his mandolin aside so that his plaintive declarations can be heard with greater starkness. In "My Cup Runneth Over," for example, it's Peter Frampton who provides the guitar hook.

It really is. Ricky has grown his hair out - much like Bill Monroe did ... in the day ...
I’ve been a Skaggs/Whites fan since the old days. Sharon and Buck White are ideals in my house. ;o)

Yep. Ricky is a great musician, singer and overall performer. But my favorites are Vince Gill and Alison Krauss. - “Tryin’ to Get Over You”

I'll give you a Skaggs Whites Bump. I still have the cassette tape taken off the vinyl in the 80s. Stored in a box in a trunk. I haven't had a cassette player for 7 years.

Let me give you a tip. Recorded after the White albums, Skaggs did a duet album with Tony Rice mostly old standard gospel blue grass. I suspect that these had all been recorded by Bill Monroe in earlier times. No other other instruments, just guitar and mandolin. I wore that tape out in the 80s but then recorded most of the cuts off of Napster in 2000.

After listening to these 3 songs I'll be buying the CD. I like "I'm Alive"...his daughter Molly has a beautiful voice.
