"Our normal day disappeared around 8:30. Sirens sounded and news reached us that a gunman was near or in the library. Violence had come into the heart of our campus. The outcome could have been much worse, no matter how quickly our law enforcement officials responded."

“but also thanking a clearly disturbed person for not making us pay a horrible price for the gun laws that prevail in our country.”
LOL!
Oh, my!
Perhaps a monument should be erected to the wise, generous crackpot gunman.
That article is nonsensical tripe.
“Violence had come into the heart of our campus.”
If violence thought his ass would get shot off by the law abiding, legal owners of handguns who are probably not permitted to defend themselves OR your sorry ass, violence probably wouldn’t have come into your campus, where the sheep are ripe for slaughter, unless violence was trying to commit suicide, which is also likely. Dimwit.
Shooter ping!
I guarantee that if we were allowed to conceal carry on the UT campus, this 'kid' would have never made it to the library. He would probably have been dead or incapacitated after the first shot or two.
Why is it that this happened on the UT campus and not somewhere else in Austin? Lots of people and no 'threat' of someone with a concealed gun.
I guess he forgot that the campus is a “gun free zone.”. Someone forgot to tell the perp, too.
I think he had to change his drawers.
***Why is an AK-47 or any gun for that matter legal to buy and use?***
I am a native Texan, and a big part of my family are UT alums...
but the place is full of NE Ivy league nitwits now, especially in the schools other than science, engineering and business.
Fixed the title.
“He would probably have been dead or incapacitated after the first shot or two.”
He passed close to many people that could of taken him out had they been armed.
I think that about covers it. Saved some column inches, too.
Say hello to a typical leftist professor...of CLASSICS yet. That Greek background will get him a long way should he ever have to actually WORK for a living. Yet naturally, being a liberal elite, he should make all of the rules for we the “little people.”
I heard this idiotic statement on the news earlier. Jeff Ward and Ed Clemens were talking about this yesterday on Jeff’s show. Both those wimps were against the concealed carry on campus.
As I told my buddies, if the kid was shooting at people and there had been 12 or 15 people returning fire, the shooter wouldn’t have had a chance. He would have likely dropped his weapon and run or been offed by the others.
thanks for the summary LOL
Professor, you and your terrorist scum friend and Obamas attacking campus are not taking my guns away, period.
I taught on another UT campus. I was surrounded by people who had been “raised in captivity.” Most of them had been in school their entire lives, and many had parents who were teachers too.
Fortunately, the only person in the department that had a concealed carry license was me.
But then again, I don’t necessarily need one.
My youngest (UT student) daughter pondered whether having a gun in a situation like this would be a good thing.
I asked her a simple question: “If this guy was staring you down, would you rather be armed or not?”
She quickly said, “armed”
She’s a very smart young lady.
