Thank you Sgt. Hicks.

His first name was Kyle? Michael Biehn. Great effing line in a movie.

Well I cleaned the screens. Reattached hoses and slightly turned on the water. The cold water faucet goes mental spraying water like the washer is about to blow out. Not from the hose connection but thorough the washer like the faucet is coming off the wall.

So I may have a second problem.

I think the washer will go tomorrow.

I may need to post a question on trying to fix washers on outdoor style faucets. I tried it before and failed with a channel lock.

I bet I will get pictures and video links of the O’Jays, Barry White-appliances, Jimi Hedrix and others. Geez.

cold water faucet goes mental spraying water

That sounds like a faucet stem packing issue.

Take a look at this and see if it helps.

With the screens cleaned, did the pressure entering the washer improve?

Whirlpool inlet valves are about $20 on the net. Replace the whole thing. Very easy. Run the hoses full blast into a bucket to remove debris from the pipe.

To stop foreign material from getting into the small inlet solenoid orifice.

To keep grit out of the inlet valve. If grit gets in, the inlet valve will not close and leak when the washer is not being used.

Kill it with fire.
*tapped on shoulder, mumbled voice “washing machines are impervious to fire.”*
Oh, in that case, use the cutting torch.

Joking aside, you have hard mineral heavy water there, don’t you?
Not much can be done for a 12 year old washer that has heavy minerals encrusting its guts.

There’s this stuff that is phosphoric acid based called Naval Jelly.
It removes rust and does a number to the paint job too.
But it will dissolve encrusted minerals.
I don’t recommend it, but it might work.
Try more normal less destructive ideas first.

Many thanks. Great video. I think the packing nut needs to be tightened or the gasket in there needs to be replaced.

I need to fix that first. I hooked up the hoses. Slowly turned on the pressure low and the cold faucet was spraying out water - looks like through the packing nut.

I will try to tighten it today. I spent 90 minutes at the laundry today. :-(

Thanks for the help.
