Not as much as you can imagine.. I bet Metallica’s S&M or Epica’s Classical Conspiracy are much more cost effective than some of the over-synthesized Kanye West albums.

“It’s not him soloing my friend it’s Jimi.”

Shit, just Google “All Along the Watchtower” and Dave Mason’s name and kick back and listen to him play electric guitar, my friend.

Uncle Ted Nugent is my second choice after Jimi Hendrix. Nugent can do some of the things that I saw Hendrix do on guitar. Uncle Ted is a magician with the guitar. However, Hendrix could play guitar behind his back and never miss a note.

As good as Sultans of Swing is, Telegraph Road is much better.

Hendrix had been working on and off with the members of the band Traffic as he recorded Electric Ladyland. Traffic guitarist Dave Mason caught Hendrix at a party and the two discussed Bob Dylan’s newest album, John Wesley Harding, containing “All Along The Watchtower.” Hendrix, long fascinated with Dylan, decided to cover the song on the album. On the resulting track, Mason plays rhythm on a 12-string acoustic guitar.

Exactly, not having Frank Zappa on this list is criminal.

Mason did his own Watchtower .Maybe you’re talking about that ..That’s a pretty unknown track . PS I a Traffic fan and always dug Mason. We were discussing major solos and the Watchtower everyone was talking about was the Hendrix version. Perhaps this is the mixup.

You want slide guitar? Try Rod Price.

Or David Lindley. The solo begins at about 5:24. Pushing the limits of what can be called a "guitar" solo, true, but damned fine pickin' and slidin' nonetheless.

Another Johny Noname.
