It is the same every year

Uh, didn't Ohio State win handily against the top Pac 10 team in last year's Rose Bowl? Now who was that they beat?

You might want to look it up.

The Auburn - LSU game next Saturday should be good.

Absolutely. The outcome of that one will put the winner in the drivers seat.

Let’s say OU and Oregon both lose while the five undefeated teams right below them keep winning. I wonder if Auburn, Michigan State, and LSU would leapfrog Boise and TCU because of strength of schedule.

wow, I looked at Ohio State’s schedule...I noticed 4 home games in a row to start the season. Does anyone else do that?

Not that I know of. And, get this; it is actually the law...yes, the LAW as passed by the Ohio legislature that Ohio State MUST play an in-state school at least once a year. This year it was Ohio University, next year it will be Cincinnati. What a joke.

I despise Ohio State.

“Death of an Offense” written by the Regents of Texas Tech University and directed by Tuberville.

I read where Leach might get an offer from Tennessee. If so, he better hope that Phil Sims son isn’t the same momma’s boy that Craig James son was. Watched him on CBSSports and must say he is one lousy color man (even admitted he might be in over his head). BUT, I always admired Leach’s offenses and ability to recruit QBs, even tho it PO’d me when they beat my ‘Horns in the last seconds.

I think he got a raw deal at Tech, but that’s the way it is these days in our pansy society. In any event, I wish him well.

Talk about stupid announcers! lol The guys announcing the Tech game this past weekend brought up the fact that Leach was now gone from Tech (as if anyone watching that game didn't know that story!) then mentioned the irony of how Leach loves pirates and was announcing the game for East Carolina State Pirates. I kept waiting for him to say AND the new Head Coach at ECU is Leach's former Defensive Coach.

Nothing - not a mention of Ruffin McNiell as the new HC. I looked at my husband and asked if they even interview these idiots before hiring them.

Oh and as an interesting tidbit - Leach got fired for putting the little princess inside a press room after he whined about his head, but Tuberville played our QB, who has a documented history of a concussion after he was hit hard enough in the jaw to need XRAYS. Now who is risking students health?

“..Take the top 6 Conferences SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big East, SWC, Pac 10 and two at large and have an 8 team Championship...”

The old SWC (Southwest Conference) folded ~15 years ago. You must have meant the Big 12 (a new name is necessary since soon there will be only 10). Your proposal has been made in the past. I would submit that the ACC and Big East are rinky dink conferences that should be thrown in with the two at large berths and that there are often teams that didn’t win their conferences that nevertheless are legitimate contenders for winning the playoffs. So I would propose Big12, Big10, Pac10, and SEC with FOUR at large berths.

My question is why aren’t Auburn and LSU there NOW? OK, Boise St, TCU, nor Oregon’s schedules can touch either Auburn or LSU’s. I mean almost their entire division (save Ole Miss) is ranked in the top 25. No other conference can hold a candle to the difficulty of 8 SEC conference games.

Hello from an LSU alumni...

Tigers didn't lose against 18th rated North Carolina.

Tigers won against #25 (now #20) West Virginia.

Tigers won against #14 Florida (now out but they'll be back)

Of course there will be a game Saturday which will be like a playoff game.

The "Hatter" will need all his magic...he's probably in New Orleans now.

BTW when will Auburn decide between the "War Eagles" and "Tigers"...I've never understood that and would truly like to know what the deal is.

TIGERS is painted in their end zone. I reckon War Eagle is like the second name for the Alabama Pachyderms - Crimson Tide.

And Stoops is breathing a huge sigh of relief that he won’t have to face USC in a bowl game...

Looked it up...

According to the Auburn website, nickname is and has always been Tigers.

They were referred to as "Plainsmen" in the past as they were indeed plainsmen.

War Eagle comes from the fact that their mascot is a Golden Eagle and the term "War Eagle" is a cheer. The current eagle #vII is named Nova.

I feel sorry for OU now. #1 has been a curse the past two weeks.

AP #1 has been cursed. Feel sorry for Oregon.

This is basically the story I got from an Auburn fan one year at a Texas v. Auburn football game ...

In the first Auburn v. Georgia football game, Auburn was losing. But then an injured confederate soldier let go of is eagle from the war. The eagle flew around the stadium and all the auburn fans started chanting “war eagle”. Auburn came back in the second half to win the very first Auburn/Georgia football game.

I think he [Mike Leach] got a raw deal at Tech, but that’s the way it is these days in our pansy society. In any event, I wish him well.

I have no direct connection to Texas Tech in any way aside from some co-workers who got engineering degrees there. I did visit the campus many years ago while in West Texas and was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful architecture. So that's about all I really knew about TTU.

When Mike Leach took over the program, watching the Red Raiders became "must see TV". With all due respect to Spike Dykes, it was Leach who really energized things there and put Tech on the map nationally. If I were an alum of Texas Tech, I don't know that I'd ever be able to forgive Craig James.

I think in the Sagarin LSU might be rated higher than Auburn, I don’t remember. Or the ELO-CHESS part of it. The top 30 I’m talking about is the Sagarin top 30 or the ELO-CHESS part of it. At least LSU gets mentioned in the (endless) talk. Auburn seems to fly under the radar. Maybe because they can’t make up their minds about a nickname....?

We are the Tigers. We are not the War Eagles. War Eagle is what we say as in “War Eagle!” It is our fight song and the name of our Eagle.

To confuse you further, we are also called The Plainsmen, because Auburn and Auburn, Alabama were named for an Oliver Goldsmith poem. The first line is “Sweet Auburn, loveliest village on the plain.” Auburn is still referred to as the ‘loveliest village on the plains.’

Hooray for Ohio State!!!

One win this decade!

I don’t know what was going on with Oregon last year - they played weird - could have been coaching, or lack of prep/recent history for a big time bowl.

Rose Bowl - since 2001 - 5:1 PAC-10 including Oregon game. Previous - Penn State ranked #6 vs USC #5 - USC played their second string defense for the 4th quarter - the game was OVER.

Recent Ohio State vs USC - 0-2 regular season.

Big-10 schedules are too soft. They actually count ND as an important game. Recent game ND vs USC - ND got their first first down on the last play of the third qtr. Ohio State likes to make fun of Boise State “ease of schedule” - then play Marshall, Ohio, and Eastern Michigan in 3 out of first 4 games (other was Miami). - Boise played VTech, Wyoming, OR State, and NM State. 2 ranked teams.

This year - Wisconsin vs AZ State - decided by a point. Wisconsin - possibly best team in Big-10. AZ State - not ranked. Average Pac-10 team.
