Smart phones running Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 operating system arrived in stores Monday. And at least one of the phones has been a sellout, for a few hours at least.
The HTC HD7, sold by T-Mobile, was listed as being out of stock on T-Mobile's website Monday night, up until early Tuesday morning when the phone was listed again as being in stock. T-Mobile spokeswoman Patty Raz confirmed that the HTC HD7 was, in fact, temporarily out of stock on the carrier's website, but that the phone was now available again online.
Raz declined to comment on specific sales numbers so far, or say how many HD7 phones T-Mobile had in stock before its website listed the phone as being out of stock.
But, the seemingly high demand for the HTC HD7, which features a 4.3-inch touch-screen display and 16 GB of memory, should be encouraging for Microsoft.
The tech giant is banking on Windows Phone 7 to boost Microsoft's presence in the smart-phone market. Over the last few years, the company has lost ground in the smart-phone market to Research in Motion's BlackBerry, Apple's iPhone and phones running on Google's Android operating system.
Microsoft's share of the smart-phone market in the U.S. was about 9% through the second quarter of this year.
AT&T, the only other carrier selling Windows Phone 7 handsets for now, declined to comment specific sales figures for Windows Phone 7 handsets so far.
"Some stores may be temporarily out of a particular model, but customers can expect regular shipments of additional inventory every few days," said Debbie Rapport, an AT&T spokeswoman.

Sure... because windows works so well/sarc I would never pay for a windows product again. I want an Iphone, but I have and love Verizon. Go MAC and don’t go back!
I do everything in my power to avoid purchasing any Microsoft product before the second service pack is released.
I am going to buy a win 7 phone. I do not like the spec sheet info indicating it is a zune music interface. However since it is windows there will be a host of other mp3 alternatives.
I'm not real interested in WinPho7... If I were going to get a smartphone, I'd probably get an iPhone, but a) no AT&T reception here, and b) I really don't need a smartphone. So no iPhone.
My LG 5500 stupidphone on Verizon does everything I want in a cellphone. I also have an iPod Touch that I use for playing MP3s from eMusic.com and a game or two. Could I combine those functions and be happy? Sure. But with AT&T, not a chance.
I hope WinPho7 does well. I'd like to see Microsoft succeed at something in that market.
I wasn’t really like the Windows Phone 7, but now that I played with one I gotta say...they have a real contender.
My biggest issue is they need to add tethering or have an app that turns it into a wifi hotspot. Once it has that then I’m sold.
The bing map integration is fantastic. It’s the most eye candy on any phone on the market. I think they outdid the iPhone in presentation.

MAC doesn't have a phone. Plus as it's Mac not MAC.
But windows 7 is smoking hot and so is Windows Phone 7. I am really shocked at how well Microsoft pulled this off.
After using Microsoft for years its most definitely MAC! Apple has an Iphone but its only through AT&T.. Sorry to confuse ya.. LOL. And Windows 7 is just as disappointing as other versions, although less so than Vista. I use MAC as my primary and Win 7 when I absolutely must.
