Home defense; urban house; hopefully I’ll only have to use it on a target range;

You worried about your house being overrun by radical Jehovah's Witnesses? "Taking down" your own meth lab?

You might as well go duck hunting with a howitzer.

Just buy a Colt and forget about it. Everything else is a copy, no matter how much they claim their product is “improved”.

Wrong! Nothing beats a Johnny Seven OMA.

Tell me about your Leupold CQ/T. I’m thinking of getting one but am having some doubts. For not too much more I can get an Aimpoint CompML2.

Love to! :-) I can't comment on the Aimpoint. Don't have one. Regarding Leupold... well... part of it is that I have a real soft spot for Leupold ever since my first gold-ring 4x Leupold scope I got for my .270 Ruger years ago. They just make really nice stuff. The circle-dot sight makes for simply instantaneous target acquisition. I love the 1x, simple optical sight for close quarters. But it's nice to have the 3x zoom if you have something at longer range. The circle-dot works with or without a battery. With a AA battery, you can use the lighted reticle, with a variable brightness adjustment. Again... nothing to think about. Put the dot on the target and squeeze. So... there's that.

Saiga .223 carbine. It’s a russian made AK47.

The Daewoo DR-200 in .223 or the DaewooDR-300 (7.63X39) may be more to your liking. It is very accurate, right out of the box, and can easily be fitted with a folding stock, scopes and sights to your liking, etc.

The Daewoo is reliable, with an action similar to the AK-47, not the Matty Mattel.

YMMV.

Thanks. The Leupold 1x14mm prismatic scope looks interesting too, just because it’s so small. I also like the fact that it has a focusing eyepiece and the reticle is etched into the glass. I just wish they made a magnifier for it.

House in city? Self defense?

No, not an M-4, or not a rifle at all. The overcarry rules out any rifle in such a situation.

You shoot at a perp in such a situation, bullet may exit house and travel 200-800 meters.

Get a short (legal) barrel shotgun. Do not get the vaulted double OO buckshot, but rather number 2 or 4 buckshot or BBs.

They are incredibly deadly at typical in the house, in the yard, street out front ranges, but then dissipate their energy.

Get a flashlight with a remote switch that attaches to the barrel.

Learn your lines (where can you shoot in your house that does not endanger people in the next room, etc.)

Where are the choke points and channels? For example, in my bedroom, I have a place I can go where all three entrances to the room are then within a 90 degree arc, and I am behind cover.

Lots to think about.
