I am new to the world of MacBook and while I love it, I don't really like downloading my photos from my Nikon D60 with IPhoto. The process to be able to finish them in Photoshop is tedious (at least as far as I can tell--maybe there is a better way that I don't know about!). Or, maybe there is a better software.
I was working with Photoshop 7, so I am also having to learn the new things of CS5 too (altho I'm loving everything except the lack of lighting effects) so far.
But, I would really like to just forego Iphoto altogether and be able to just download my pictures directly into a folder and then photoshop them and not mess with Iphoto. Is there some way to do that? Thanks for any help. I am minimally techie, so please don't make too much fun of me. :)
I a Mac guy and I don’t use iPhoto either. I download from my D-90 using Adobe Lightroom. It’s a little pricey but well worth the cost.
I hate to buy lightroom when I just spent my $$ on photoshop. I wonder if there is a way to use photoshop to download. This should not be this complex.
Use Image Capture in the Applications folder.
ping for any suggestions/help. Thanks much.
That sounds simple....
I can just take the memory card out of my camera, put it in my computer and then copy to folder. Is this not possible on a MacBook?
I do not see a slot it would fit in....
The question is about which application can be used to import photos from external media like said memory card. Questions been answered: Image Capture.
Use a USB card reader?
Apple’s ImageCapture utility will do what you want but without all the bells and whistles of Lightroom.
It is indeed simple!
Attach your camera to your MacBook via USB. Open Image Capture. It will recognize the camera and allow you to import photos at your leisure to a folder of your choice.
iPhoto one-ups this process by allowing you to arrange your photos in albums without having to worry about folder structures or finding photos you took X amount of days/months/years ago.
Are you shooting RAW photos or just JPEGs? RAWs are a little trickier to download.
pull the memory chip out of the camera and stick it in the port on the mac. then open finder, click on the chip you see in the device section, open that and drag and drop where you will.
Thank you, simple, and it worked! :)
the slot is the narrowest (top to bottom) of all the slots, and also wider. it will look like its bigger than the chip but stick it in anyway.
on mine, its on the left as you look at the screen, first slot after the earphone jacks going front to back.
In general I take Jpgs, because photoshop 7 could not deal with RAW. At some point, since CS5 can deal with RAW (I thing) I may do some RAW, but I will save that for another time. Right now, just working my way around the new stuff I used to know how to do is enough... :)
There’s really nothing wide enough to fit the memory card from my camera on this computer. This is the first time I’ve looked, but it’s too wide. I still love my Mac anyway. :)
A pocket size card reader is the handy thing to have since the flash cards are used in so many devices and it makes transfers easy. They are cheap, like the one at this link is $9.99 with free shipping and it reads 12 types of cards. The seller is also one of the best on the web
