Auburn Falls Short, Boise State Looks Strong: How the Top 4 BCS Teams Match Up
Bleacher Report ^ | 11/16/10 | Bohdi Sanders

The 2010 season is winding down and there are only four undefeated teams left going into the home stretch. The media is obviously hoping for a matchup between No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Auburn, but are they really the two best teams?

All four of these undefeated teams are in the top eight nationally in total offense. It is on the defensive side of the ball where the distinction lies. Oregon, TCU and Boise State are all in the top 20 in total defense. Boise State and TCU are in the top three.

Auburn is ranked No. 51 in total defense, and I think that this is destined to be its downfall. With games coming up against Alabama and South Carolina, the Tigers' luck will likely run out.

My power ranking as of today would be:

No. 1 Boise State No. 2 Oregon No. 3 TCU No. 4 Auburn

You can’t base how good a team is based on statistics, because they play different schedules.

TCU & Boise State in the top 5 = affirmative action has come to college football! What a joke...

I have a feeling Auburn is going to A. have at least one loss, and B. be ineligible for bowl play pretty soon.

That’s always going to be the case. Even in the NFL, outside your division. The way the Broncos defense pasted top ranked offense TCU last year tells me he’s on the right track.

Affirmative action is Auburn.

But if Auburn wins out, undefeated from a conference that has produced the last four national champions, how could they not be in the title game (barring complications from the eligibility of Cam Newton)?

THey might end up with two losses. Which will show they never belonged anyway.

There is one way to solve this.

At the end of the season, force teams that finish in the Top 32, to play two games against other Top 32 teams, outside of their conference, in the following season. You could have a drawing to determine the opponents, the details can be worked out to make sure it’s fair, i.e., one team is from 1-16 and the other is from 17-32. Of course teams will change in strength from season to season with graduation, but does the Top 25 change all that much from year to year?

That would force Boise State and TCU to play two top-notch teams, and if they win both of their assigned games, then they deserve to be considered as legit.

If either one of those teams played in the Big 10, SEC, Big 12 or PAC 10 their stats would be WAY down and more importantly, they’d have at least 2 or 3 losses... Don’t waste my time.

I would reverse their No. 2 & 3 and then I think they have it right.

Other than having 1 and 2 reversed I concur with this assessment.

If I had to say which SEC team is playing the best right now, I would have to say Arkansas. I expect them to steamroll over LSU.

Even though the school has strayed from its original 19th century restoration roots (the Stone-Campbell movement), it must make liberals angry that a school named Texas Christian University is getting recognition this year.

Furthermore, among the top of the BCS, the only private university is Texas Christian. The others are all government-run schools.

Oh, did I mention that the full name of TCU is:

Texas CHRISTIAN University.

That must be doubly annoying to atheistic liberals because the name includes Texas (a mostly Conservative state they hate with a passion) and Christian (poison to liberals).

affirmative action has come to college football! What a joke..

This includes the Big East getting a BCS birth regardless of record even though they are ALL mediocre.

....and I’m a Syracuse fan stating this.

TCU Horney Toads beat up my Utes so bad our poor little quarterback is as psyched out as Dale Jr. The next week he threw about 8 interceptions to the Drunken Irish. You just wait TCU, We'll get you in women's gymnastics or ice dancing. But seriously, we have a variation of the same little lizard which we call a Horney Toad. Is Horned Frogs the name used for the actual lizard, or is it just the name of the fine team, sort of cleaned up for company.
