Porn On FIOS
BillLawrenceOnline.Com ^ | 11-26-10

A few months ago we switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS and finally got around to playing with the "video-on-demand" feature. There are categories for sports and health free movies and network TV shows, and an interesting one that says "adult" that, judging by the titles, consists of some of the raunchiest pornography available.

It appears one can make the feature disappear using parental controls but it is on by default.

There is no mention of the service in Verizon's advertising.

The cost per movie is $12.95 so one suspects a nice profit is being made.

Maybe Verizon is just taking its cue from Mitt Romney and Marriott.

Hmm. The cable companies have the spare bandwidth, and they can make a few bucks catering to even a smallish clientele.

My bet would be that the people who order this come in three flavors: single guys with spare change, big-screen televisions, and the desire to watch porn in a nicer environment than their office affords; couples; groups of guys watching “action films” together at a party, a frat event, stuff like that. It’s a lot easier to order a porno on cable than to rent it.

The missus and I have watched a few such films on cable that were spur-of-the-moment, “Let’s try it,” events on a Saturday night when our kid was out with friends. While it’s always initially titillating, it also gets boring fast. The acting is usually unbelievable, and destroys any mood. It always turns out to be less exciting than we hoped and a waste of money.

>>>Did our Founders feel that way about porn?

They guaranteed a free press, which is just as necessary as firearms as a specific necessity for our freedom.

I really doubt that.

On “30 Rock” they have a fictional company “Cable Town” buying out NBC/GE. This cable company supposedly makes 90% of it’s revenue off of these porn PPV and channels. I suspect it’s not too far off, as far as jokes go.

Take away people’s porn, and we will see an actual revolution, not the huff and puff type.

This makes me think about some of the conversations I have with Anti-Republicans. They believe that the religious conservatives will bring about a version of the Salem-porncraft trials or something similar.

This forum was recently identified as “America’s exclusive site for God, Family, Country, Life & Liberty constitutional conservative activists!”

I suggest that Liberty stays with our federal government and we deal with these matters on a local and personal manner.

Pornography is not a victimless crime. Plenty of young girls are chewed up in the process.

But you won't see the libs or the feminists try to stop porn. They are strangely silent on the whole issue.

However, they will support every effort to "slut up" a young woman and keep extending it, agewise, downward to 12, 13 yrs old.

Why are the libs and feminists not fighting porn? Follow the money.

They guaranteed a free press,

And when people used it to publish porn (lewdness, obscenity etc.) they were arrested, an occurrence that didn't start to change until well after WWII.

And, btw, while I said I objected to that thing being available I didn't see where I advocated laws prohibiting it.

Do either one of you think these types of films are somehow a good and healthy thing for our nation, society and culture?

Placemark for ping out.

Obscene materials were never considered protected under Constitutional free speech until the porn producer Larry Flynt, the commie founded ACLU and a leftist SCOTUS deemed it to be protected.

... Why are the libs and feminists not fighting porn? Follow the money.

As much as most would like it to, it has nothing to do with the money. In my opinion, it has to do with the spiritual driving force behind their thoughts and actions. Libs and Feminists think the way they do because they are spiritually lost and don't know right from wrong. Their conscious' seared by years of wallowing in willful disregard for the Lord and his Law, loving their sin, and just plain ignorance of God and His majesty. They will never try and stop porn because it serves the spiritual purposes of the one behind it; even if it takes out a few 12 and 13 year olds. It's not that they support it or like it, it's that they don't know it is wrong. They are spiritually influenced by the evil one and he requires their willful ignorance. ... A spiritual war is waged in the spiritual realm. Porn is part of that spiritual battle.

After that quick rant, I will go on to state that I believe that everyone has a choice to make, and if we want to live in a free society, free to make our own choices about life, liberty and who or what we can worship, then in order for us choose "life" and all that it affords, we must allow for those not to choose "life" and all that it promises. If God in his infinite wisdom gave man that choice, why should we ever propose to take it away?

The dress is not the only slut up in play; they are normalizing sexual play in their minds. The worst example I can think of is where very young, unwed mothers are treated as victims of society. You know, they are punished with a child.

Help!

I had my satellite shut off 2 years ago - it kept creeping up and got to n ave of $90 a month - new customers could get an introductory deal - but old customers can get hanged.

I decided I could better use the money - and I now get 95% of the programs I watched LIVE & FREE online.

EXCEPT Discover and Nat Geo.

I am desperate to get Nat Geo live as they are airing the documentary “RESTREPO” on my grandson's Platoon, the now famous BATTLE Co. = 2-503rd 173rd AIRBORNE.

They have, mainly for their 15 deployment in Afghanistan from spring of 2007 - fall 2008 in “The Valley of Death - the Korengal Valley in No. Eastern Afghanistan on the Paki border.

ABC Niteline did a documentary on them in Nov 2007, Vanity Fair has done several articles, NYT Magazine did a front cover story, they have been on CNN , FOX MMSBC, - Sebastian Junger (”Perfect Storm”) and Tim Hetheringon, a prize winning war photo journalist embedded wtih them for a total of a year - wrote and directed a movie “RESTREPO” (the name of their little firebase this small handful of soldiers pickaxed out of a mt side) - the movie took top prize< Grand Jury Award, at the Sundance Film Festival, aired in selected theaters around the country this summer and fall, and has just made the short list for documentaries for the Oscar.

Junger’s book, corresponding with the movie , “WAR”, hit the ground as a best seller in may - and Hetherington’s photo book on them, “Infidel” is now available.

All this and NOW, one of this little 30-man Platoon, you may ‘know” - SSGT Giunta, who was just presented the Medal of Honor - the first living soldier so presented since the Vietnam War.

This is their story. this is my grandson's story. (He just got off his second deployment in the ‘ghan.)

NOW - Nat Geo bought both the theatrical and broadcast rights AND they are airing it this Monday night...along with addtional videos: “Where Are The Now” and “SSGT Giunta.

I am desperate to find a link for live Nat’l geo.

Does anyone have a live link? AT any rate - do yourseves a favor - WATCH THIS! God B;ess our troops - (Battle ompany, a little 30-man band, isollated on a rocky spit atop a mountain in the Hindu Kush - were engaged in over 1,000 firefights - were to go through, out of the 70,000 troops in the county, 20% of the fighting... They were totally isolated from the rest of the military, surrounded by Taliban, no running water, no heat, n o power, no hot food - often VERY hungry, and suffered things and loses that most of can not even imagine. On the occasions they would, idividually get back to where they could get a shower - they would burn what was left of their uniforms....sometimes, on the walk from the chopper delivering them to base and the buildings where they could get shower - would be stopped by a senior officer and be BERATED for being such a disgrace as to the condition of their uniforms! GO AIRBORNE!

Huh? Granted, while many leftist "feminists" are supporters of certain types of porn (like Betty Friedan and others), have you ever heard of Catherine Mackinnon or Andrea Dworkin? Not only are these two and their followers completely against pornography, these lunatics are of the belief that all male/female sex, including within marriage (which they believe to be legitimized slavery) to be rape. Well, Dworkin was against it. She's dead now.

The so-called porn that is on the cable channels is not like the stuff that one would purchase at an adult video store. The “action” shots are not the “money” shots like the full fledged stuff. It’s rather timid for pornography.

While it’s problematic it’s not the same as the stuff that one can download for free on the internet. Set the remote to block those channels so you don’t accidentally have the children/grandchildren pushing buttons and making purchases.

Anyone who thinks pornography is free speech has bought into the very idea that all viewpoints are equal (human relativism).

But they sure won’t do any research on the topic to understand that the majority of the porn industry is controlled by organized crime, has exceeded 78 billion USD globally (which will stop any attempt by Congress to take action on the existing testimony before the Judiciary Committee on the issue), and leaves

W R E C K E D

lives and families in the addiction/slavery. Ask any counselor of recovery specialists. Go ahead, pop into an office, email a counselor, or walk into a church and ask a pastor.

But instead of getting to truth, they have the audacity to put the need for porn in the same plane as the 2nd Amendment, because making a strawman argument is easier than facing real problems. Besides, they would probably have to examine their own worldview— and that is waaaaaaayyyyy too painful.

Meanwhile, back in the pages of antiquated history, some dude named George Washington said it would be impossible to govern without a moral, religious society. So conservatives will “conserve” anything else but the glue that holds it all together.

Now go and google the addiction rate/consequences of our sons and daughters. Or if you really want to join the human race: go talk to one.
