James Franco, Anne Hathaway to host 83rd Oscar telecast

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday morning that actors James Franco and Anne Hathaway will host the 83rd annual Oscar telecast Feb. 27 on ABC -- a move that certainly seems designed to help the academy achieve its long-held goal of attracting a younger viewing audience.

The 32-year-old Franco is currently receiving rave reviews for his work in Danny Boyle's "127 Hours" and the 28-year-old Hathaway, currently starring in the new romantic drama "Love & Other Drugs," earned a best actress nomination for 2008's "Rachel Getting Married."

"James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons -- fresh, exciting and multi-talented," said telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer in a statement Monday morning. "We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on Feb. 27. We are completely thrilled that James and Anne will be joining forces with our brilliant creative team to do just that."

In recent years, Oscar hosts traditionally have been comics -- Billy Crystal, David Letterman, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres all have hosted the ceremony.

Franco's hosting assignment will mark his second appearance on the Oscar telecast; Hathaway will be making her fifth appearance. During the 2009 ceremony, the actress performed a comedic musical number with host Hugh Jackman.

Hathaway is a blithering idiot Marxist. But it’s Hollywood so what else is new. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of positive Obama remarks, and negative tea party(bagger), Palin, conservative remarks for all to enjoy. That’s why I never watch it!

There was a clamor for Betty White to become the oldest Oscar host in history.

In fact, it was MOSTLY YOUNG PEOPLE who were asking for it.

Don’t know what happened to that.

Anne sold her soul like the majority of Hollywood has - she has no personality-how else would you explain her fame? Didnt Katie Perry and Lady Gaga do the same?

Oscar = A prize for finally getting it right on the 32nd take with a stand-in.

Franco on General Hospital has been a complete dud.....since I never watch the Oscars, I could care less but I don’t see his “sparkling personality” drawing too many people.....

Oscars are just a bunch of America-loathing Communists patting each other on the back for three hours...it would be great if Americans would get over their obsession with these Hollywood idiots. They use toilet paper the same way the rest of us do...

I haven’t watched the Oscars in 30 years.

The most boring show on TV-—————ever.

I must REALLY be getting old. I follow movies pretty closely but I barely recognize James Franco's name. After perusing his movie resume I see why I have not. “Nights in Rodanthe”, “Milk” “Spiderman Three Thousand”and "Eat Pray Love". Hell I have had gas that was more memorable than those POSs

“There was a clamor for Betty White to become the oldest Oscar host in history”.

...she would’ve helped me make a decision to watch it.

There is as of this time, no news, no evidence of Franco being gay.

In fact, Franco has been in a relationship with actress Ahna O'Reilly since 2006.

See their pic together below :

While it probably isn’t the 1st time for me, but frankly, I cannot even picture these two people. Such a shame but I am really not all that worried at this lack of useless knowledge.

I didn't see the new movie where he chews off his own leg, but he was pretty awesome in "Tristan and Isolde."
