Help! My Laptop was just hit by a virus called avtain. IT has rendered it useless.
How can I get rid if it?
I was running microsoft security essentials. on a windows 7 OS
start up in safe mode with networking. Download the free version of this:
and run it in safe mode.
Thanks.
I have been hit by some scary ones. I take it to a local shop in Newnan, Ga. Personally, I would recommend taking it to Computer Geeks. Just a personal thing, that’s all. I called and spoke to a few high school students working there and just didn’t have a good feeling. My computer cost a pretty penny so I was willing to pay whatever it cost but taking it to the place I did cost less that CG did.
I am asking Freepers because I trust them, and they may have experience with this ugly little @%*!
Sorry, not my intent to be rude.
would NOT, I repeat NOT take it to computer geeks. sorry aobut typo
What? and risk the guy from the geek squad see my pron collection?
Oh dear. Ive said to much...
Avtain.com is a rogue antispyware with Antivirus Action warnings which lures users to unknowingly perform corrupt actions on a targeted computer. Avtain.com poses as an antispyware application that displays deceptive warnings and misleading scan results. It then asks for users to purchase it once scanning is completed.
I use Superantispyware.
Thanks.
I am running windows 7
Thank You
No offense taken.
Yeah. I thought it was my virus protection program prompting me.
Boot in safe mode by holding down the F8 key while rebooting.
Here are the restore instructions from Yahoo:
On the start menu, go to ‘Accessories’ and then go into ‘system tools’
The ‘system restore’ function is usually at the bottom of the list.
The ‘system restore’ function will take your computer back to what it was like yesterday (or whenever you last did something to your system)
The process is fully reversible in case you change your mind
Any files (eg. word documents) will not be changed, only the system
Thanks.
Apparently there is more than one way to skin a cat.
At least the Geek Squad wasn’t called in. The ones in my area are dangerous at best. People generally call me after their first and usual last run in with them.
Press the F8 key while booting. A menu will come up from which you can choose “safe mode.” When you get to safe mode, you will have the choice of booting into the operating system the system recovery. Choose system recovery and roll your entire system back to some date in the past before the virus struck.
Restore in progress
go to www.avast.com
sownload their free virus protection and let it scan all night if it has to
I have only used that for over 5 years without a problem
