I dumped AVG free after it locked my computer. I went with Microsoft Security Essential for protection What is an excellent Register checker software to use. Too get rid of the left over pieces from AVG and Nortan Anti-Virus installations. I Am using Vista x64 home premiun for my operating system. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Oh and dump Vista ASAP.
I still have AVG but I’ll keep tabs on what you get on this thread. I did hear that Windows 7 machines were locked up really bad.
Precisely what I use as well. A great little freeware tool.
Komondo is free virus ware. Works great. We dumped AVG long ago for lock up problems.
Windows 7.
I got a bad trojan on Mcafee and had lots of issues with AVG breaking itself every 2 weeks on both XP and 7. I am now on Microsoft SE and Spybot, both coexist with each other.
I’d use CCleaner followed by IOBit’s Advanced SystemCare. Both are free, but the paid version of Advanced SystemCare does even more deep cleaning, along with turning off unnecessary services and such.
If you can get the IOBit program under $15, it’s worth it. Get it from CNET, and maybe you’ll see a deal. If not, uninstall it and see if a discount offer appears.
I have used AVG free for years, is that what is locking up my computer! Wish I had known this long ago!!! GEEZ!

I’d suggest the free Microsoft Security Essentials or the free Avira. Both of these do the best for free antiviruses, according to av-comparatives.org, an Austrian non-profit that tests AVs every which way.
ok!
Here’s a free one that I’ve seen recommended on FR. I’ve only been using it a short while, but it seems to do fine.

I’ve been using ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus or Smart Security Suite. I have never had a problem with either one.
I use ccleaner too, but here’s another free clean-up utility:

It will find more things to fix in the registry than ccleaner.
I agree Vista sucks!

I use Windows 7 (64 bit) and use The free version of Avast and Ccleaner. Both work great.
I haven’t used a virus program in many years. Most e mails are screened by the isp company or by the 3rd-party e mail like google, hotmail and yahoo.
